Our Core Values

We believe that God-honoring worship is the catalyst for true discipleship, spiritual growth, and vitality in the Christian life and in the church. (Worship, Discipleship)

  • This includes the concept of transformation and education through experiencing worship (Rom. 12:7; James 1: 23-25)

We believe that lost people matter to God, and therefore, ought to matter to the church. (Evangelism, Outreach)

  • This includes the concept of relational evangelism through  invitation and welcome as well as modeling a life that makes Jesus attractive to all. (Luke 5:30-32; Luke 15; Matt. 18:14, Matthew 28:19-20; Phil. 1:11)

We believe that the church is to respond to Christ's call to acts of compassion and justice on behalf of the poor and powerless. (Outreach)

  • This includes the concepts of social holiness, servanthood and sacrificial love. (Micah 6:8; Matt. 25:1-46; Luke 10:25-37)

We believe that Floris UMC should be culturally relevant and consistent with the doctrinal standards and general rules of the United Methodist Church.

  • This includes the concepts of a Christ-centered, Spirit-led, Biblically-based church and connectionalism ( 1 Cor. 9:19-23, United Methodist Book of Discipline)

We believe that authentic disciples yearn for continuous transformation to become fully devoted followers of Christ. (Discipleship, Evangelism)

  • This includes the concept of genuine and committed Christians who through sanctifying grace pursue Christian perfection (Heb. 12:1-2; John 15;  Phil. 1:6; Phil 2; Deut. 6:4-9)

We believe that small groups are an essential component of both a Christian community and ongoing life change.  (Fellowship, Discipleship)

  • This includes the concepts of accountability and spiritual growth (Luke 6:12-13; 2 Tim 3:16-17; Acts 2:44-47)

We believe that the church is unified when individual members of all ages are committed stewards of their prayers, presence, gifts and service in ministry to the church and to the world. (Outreach, Discipleship, Evangelism)

  • This includes the concepts of spiritual gifts, equipping and empowering the laity, servanthood, stewardship and commitment (1 Cor. 12 ; Rom. 12; Eph. 4;  Luke 12:34;  John 21:15-17)

We believe that loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life. (Fellowship)

  • This includes the concept of a caring community and an open communion table (1 Cor. 13; Neh.3; John 13:34-35; Eph.4:29-32; Acts 2:42-47; Phil 2:1-4)

We believe that children and youth represent an extraordinary opportunity for evangelism and conversion and are a unique focal point for our ministry. (Outreach)

  • This includes the concept of transformation and growth begining early in life.   

We believe that excellence honors God and inspires people.

  • This includes the concepts of self-evaluation, excitement and passion (Col. 3:17; Mal. 1:6-14; Prov. 27:17)
