Immigrant Ministries

If you would like to volunteer for an Outreach Ministry or have questions, please contact the church office at 703-793-0026.

Immigrant ministries are those Outreach Programs that minister to the needs of the local day laborer and immigrant community.

E.S.L.  (English as a Second Language):  Volunteers provide E.S.L. classes to people in need in the community.  Classes are offered in ten week sessions in January and September.  Classes are held at Hutchison Elementary School.  Volunteers need not speak a foreign language.

Grace Ministries:  Grace Ministries is a community outreach program that gathers resources to address the needs of low-income immigrants in the local community.  Volunteers provide food, clothing, and diapers as well as an opportunity to worship.  Goods are distributed on the first Saturday of each month at the church.  This Outreach ministry also provides job training for Personal Care Aids and Commercial Drivers Licenses to eligible low-income immigrants.

Just Neighbors:  Just Neighbors volunteers provide Christian compassion and ethical legal counsel at monthly immigration clinics for low-income immigrants and refugees in our community from around the world.   Clinics are held one Saturday morning each month at the church.  Volunteers meet with clients to conduct intake interviews.  Spanish translators are especially welcome.  If you would like to volunteer for this Outreach program, contact Executive Director Rob Rutland-Brown at 703-979-1240 or rob@justneighbors.org.  For more information visit http://www.justneighbors.org.

Project Hope and Harmony: Project Hope & Harmony (PH&H) is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit community coalition.  PH&H serves the Herndon community through day worker coordination, training, and outreach.  Its goal is to create an environment for day workers that benefit both the workers and the community by mitigating the impacts of informal day labor activity on the Town of Herndon's commercial corridor.  Reston Interfaith operates the Herndon Official Workers (HOW) Center.  Reston Interfaith has a contract with Fairfax County to engage workers and the community in maintaining safe, orderly operations of the HOW Center.  Floris volunteers work in coordination with Reston Interfaith.  For more information visit http://www.projecthopeharmony.org.

Vecinos Unidos/Neighbors United: Volunteers to Vecinos Unidos support the Homework Assistance Program that provides help with school assignments and projects to students in grades 1-8. Volunteers are needed Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. during the school year at the Neighborhood Resource Center (1086 Elden Street in Herndon, in the Dulles Park Shopping Center on Elden Street and Alabama Avenue).  For more information visit http://www.vecinosunidos.org.
