Local Ministries are those Outreach Programs that support the local community.
All God's Children Camp: This Outreach program offers support to an overnight camp for children whose mothers are incarcerated. The camp is sponsored by the Virginia UMC Annual Conference. Volunteers collect items such as sleeping bags, toiletries, and clothing. Items are delivered in early July to St. Andrews UMC in Alexandria. For more information visit http://www.vaumc.org/index.cfm/fa/content.view/menuID/1312.htm.
The Closet: The Closet accepts donated items and offers them for sale to area residents. Profits are used to directly benefit low-income families in the Herndon/Reston area through scholarships and grants. Sixteen churches and one synagogue provide staffing at the site in downtown Herndon. Volunteers work in the store pricing, sorting and selling goods on designated days throughout the year. Virginia Resource Mothers: The MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group provides baby items to low-income teen moms through Virginia Resource Mothers. For more information visit http://www.vahealth.org/resourcemothers.
25:36 Ministry (Prison Fellowship): This ministry takes its name from the Gospel of Matthew 25:36: “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Volunteers provide ministry services to prison inmates (visitation, pen pals, music for special events, speakers) in conjunction with Prison Fellowship and its efforts to bring Jesus Christ to those who are incarcerated. The Full Circle Worship Team serves as the nucleus for this ministry.
