Description:  Our unique name comes from a verse in Revelation which says "The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone...and the twelfth was amethyst" (Rev 21:19-20).  We chose "Amethyst" as our name because this particular gem is buried deep within a rock, and you actually have to crack the rock open to get to it.  Much like mining amethyst, this group LOVES to talk about scripture as a way to continue our growth as modern-day Christians!  We will be participating in a variety of Bible study options ranging from 12-week studies to 4-week studies; the majority of which will require daily/weekly scripture reading as preparation for each class discussion.  We welcome new members at the start of each new series, and plan to participate in the church-wide Bible studies during Advent and Lent. Y-WOW (Younger Women of the Word)

Description:  This fall we will begin an exciting journey into the Book of Nehemiah.  We will learn how to apply lessons from Nehemiah's prayer life, deep faith, and inspirational leadership to our own walk with God.  Younger Women of the Word is a women's Bible study for ages 18-30 that explores scripture for its life application, and promotes personal reflection and transformation.  Many women of Floris have been a part of WOW over the years, and credit it with being a critical component in their faith development.  Groups place an emphasis on membership devotions, personal Bible study, prayer, outreach and fellowship.  An environment of intimacy and open, honest sharing is maintained within each group.  WOW studies utilize a workbook format, in which readings and questions are completed before meeting with the group. Disciple One

Duration:  34 weeks, starts Sept. 17th

Description:  Can you answer the question, "How do I justify my faith in God?"  Are you able to answer questions from your children about God without having to make something up?  Come join us to read 80% of the Bible and discuss it for 100 hours over the next 8 months.  A new understanding of the Bible and a closer walk with God guaranteed!  Preparation for weekly discussions take 3-4 hours per week.  This class is truly a life changer!  [Childcare is available.]

Disciple Two

Description:  For graduates of the Disciple 1 class.  Come deepen the spiritual journey towards Christ-likeness as we look closely at Genesis-Exodus and Luke-Acts using the Disciple Bible study format. [Childcare is available.]

Monday Night Bible Study

Description:  We are an on-going "come as you can - come as you are" Bible study.  As of 12/17/07 we are in Exodus 16 and are tossing around ideas for what to study next as the group is guided by majority consensus and the Spirit.  During the school year we babysit one Monday a month for the Interfaith RISE program at Lake Anne Elementary.   [Childcare is available.]

Godly Women Under Construction
