For Children in Grades 3rd - 5th with their Parents
In our culture of oversexualization, we desire to partner with you, the parents, in helping children to understand who they are in Christ. Additionally, as our public schools include Family Life Education curriculum from a secular perspective, we want our children to be equipped through teaching from a Godly perspective about body image and relationships.
On Friday night, January 13, those in 3rd through 5th grade and their parents are encouraged to join us for this session "Designed by God". It will be an opportunity to talk about being made in God's image; our bodies as "temples in which God dwells". We will focus on the truth that we are loved by Him and made to reflect Him through the way we love. Much of our society struggles with ‘love’ as the world has painted an extremely different picture of what love is when compared to God’s perfect picture and plan. We will address the way love has been twisted to reflect a selfish nature rather than God’s love, which is selfless. As Jesus said “Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 13:15
After the introductory talk and time together we will have break outs for age appropriate conversations. This will offer a time for parents and their children to talk through some of the material that has been covered and look through some of the resources to consider taking home for ongoing conversations. Those in 5th grade, and their parents, who wish to will have an opportunity to attend a breakout session that covers Female and Male Anatomy, Growth and Development, intercourse and conception taught by doctors in gender specific groups. It will include terminology and illustrations to support and explain the teaching (recommended for those in upper elementary grades) and will give you an opportunity to talk with your child prior to their Family Life Education teaching in their school*.
*The public schools have expanded what they teach our children and at earlier ages than when we were in school, beginning in 3rd grade in Loudoun county and 4th grade for Fairfax and Prince William. The goal of this program is to partner with parents in giving our children a healthy God perspective on their sexuality in addition to what they hear at their schools. As the Lord has given us our children to raise and nurture, we want to fulfill that role to the best of our ability. The hope of this partnership is to help with the parent/child conversation (whether beginning it or a continuation), give you scripture and facts to support what is talked about and to offer resources for use at home.
