Student Ministry Volunteer Opportunities
OFFICE & ADMINISTRATIVE
Student Office Administrative Volunteer - Help with various administrative tasks as needed in the student office. Tasks may include copying, mailings, inputting registration information for student events and preparing for student trips. Serve 2 hours per week Sept – June.
High School Team Event Coordinator - Help high school teams (9th-12th grade) organize events. Tasks may include contacting venues, sending out emails and inputting registration information. Serve 2 hours per month Sept – June.
SUNDAY NIGHT PROGRAM / HOSPITALITY
Crossroads / KREW Sunday Night Leader – To be a Sunday Night Leader you should have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a willingness to share it with students 6th-12th grades, sign and adhere to the commitments outlined in the Floris Student Ministry Leadership Covenant, attend a FUMC Child and Student Protection and Procedure Policy Safety Training, obtain a Criminal-Sexual Background Check, attend Leadership Training, see our Student Calendar for training dates/times. Duties will include extending hospitality to parents and students, co-facilitate breakout groups, weekly contacting of students, and other various jobs. Serve 2 ½ hours a week (including contacting students) every Sunday Night of program, Sept – June.
Crossroads / KREW Sunday Night Cafe Volunteer(s) - Serve dinner, drinks and handle payments at the beginning of each Sunday night program. Serve 45 minutes per month, Sept – June.
Crossroads / KREW Greeter/Prayer and Security - Welcome students in parking lot as they come into Crossroads or Krew. Help insure that students are in the areas they need to be during and after program. Facilitate students moving to and from small groups. Pray for students during program. Help maintain parking lot safety as program ends. Serve 2 hours (6pm-8pm) per month, Sept – June.
Crossroads / KREW AV Tech Leader – You should have an understanding of Audio/Visual equipment, TV, projectors, sound system, and media shout, obtain a Background Check and review the FUMC Child and Student Protection and Procedure Policy Safety Training online. You will set up all Audio Visual Equipment T.V., projector, and computer, enter all messages into Media Shout, enter all latest news and information regarding upcoming events, enter other multimedia movie clips, PowerPoint games, music, control music before and after program, control and mix sound (mics and speakers). Serve 1½ hours per week (with set up time) every Sunday Night of program, Sept – June.
LEADER CARE
Adult Leader Appreciation Party Coordinator – You will email parents information regarding providing food for event, coordinate food drop off and delivery, contact and coordinate volunteers to set-up, serve and clean up at event, attend and coordinate event. Serve 1- 2 hours a week the month prior to events Dec and May.
Adult Leader Appreciation Party Host – You will provide venue for approx. 20-30 leaders at annual appreciation party. Serve 3 hours in mid December or late May.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation Logistics Volunteer(s)- Duties include working with student ministry staff to coordinate and host confirmation rehearsals and services. Serve 3-5 hours May 19 and May 20.
Confirmation Retreat Co-Leader – To be a Retreat Co-Leader, you should have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a willingness to share it with students. You will attend and interact with students throughout the retreat, authorize a background check, review the FUMC Child and Protection and Procedure Policy Training, and attend a retreat leader pre-trip meeting. Duties include experiencing the weekend with the students, help student ministry staff as needed, co-facilitating breakout groups. Serve Friday evening and Saturday (also Sunday morning for April retreat) of the weekend (Jan. 20-21 and/or April 27-29).
Confirmation Mentor – You will mentor a confirmand (same gender) through a study of the fundamentals of our Christian faith, our Methodist heritage, how to live out the faith through service, and how to take faith to the next level through personal spiritual growth. To be a Confirmation Mentor, you should have a relationship with Jesus Christ, a willingness to share it with students, and be a member of Floris United Methodist Church. You will meet with your confirmand for approx. 1 hour each week for 10 weeks, participate with your confirmand in 3 hours of service opportunity, and attend confirmation rehearsal and service. You will also need to complete the online FUMC Child and Protection and Procedure Policy Training, authorize a background check, and attend a mentor orientation meeting in early Dec.
Chocolate Festival Student Volunteer Coordinator – You will work with Chocolate Festival coordinators, check progress of student volunteer sign ups (to include all confirmands and mentors), coordinate student volunteer check-in and assignments on day of event, provide student ministry office with updates on student sign ups and participation on day of event. Serve 1 1/2 hours a week mid Jan – mid Feb.
RETREATS / TRIPS
Event/Retreat Check-In Volunteer - Help check-in students, drivers, and leaders for events and retreats. Help set up and/or clean up check-in area. Serve 1 hour the day or evening of the event.
Middle School and High School Retreat Leader – To be a retreat leader you should have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a willingness to share it with students. You will attend and interact with students throughout retreat, attend a FUMC Child and Protection and Procedure Policy Training and authorize a background check, attend a retreat Leader pre-trip meeting. Other duties include experiencing the weekend with the students, helping student ministry staff as needed, facilitating or co-facilitating breakout groups. Serve Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday morning of retreat weekend (MS-Sept. 30 - Oct. 2, HS Nov 11-13).
Middle School Spring Retreat (Journey) Leader – To be a retreat leader you should have a relationship with Jesus Christ and a willingness to share it with students. You will attend and interact with students throughout retreat, review the online FUMC Child and Protection and Procedure Policy Training and authorize a background check, and attend retreat leader pre-trip meeting. You will experience the weekend with the students, help student ministry staff as needed, co-facilitate breakout groups. Serve Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday morning of retreat weekend March 23-25.
EVENTS / Miscellaneous
Student Carwash Coordinator – You will work with student ministry staff to coordinate event logistics to include supplies needed and volunteer sign ups, contact students and adults to volunteer at the event, coordinate set up and clean up, coordinate volunteer check-in and assignments on day of event, coordinate refreshments for volunteers. Serve 1 1/2 hours per week April- mid May.
Student Carwash Baked Goods Coordinator – You will email parents and students information regarding providing baked goods for event, coordinate food drop off and delivery. Serve 2 hours a week in May.
Road Rules (M.S.) / Amazing Race (H.S.) Driver - To be a driver you must have a valid Virginia State Drivers License, reliable vehicle, safe driving record and obtain Criminal-Sexual Background Check. You will provide transportation the night of the event, to and from the church to local venues. Serve the night of the event: Road Rules is Friday September 16th 6PM – midnight, Amazing Race is Saturday September 17th 6PM-midnight
