Director of Serve Ministries

To further that vision, we are seeking a dynamic Director of Serve Ministries (Director) that shares our passion for Jesus Christ and a heart for serving others, both in our community and in our church.

 

Summary Description

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the church in servant ministry and to continually raise the value of service within the Floris congregation and in the community. As Floris grows in three focus areas (Worship, Grow, and Serve), the Director will be responsible for developing and executing Floris’ strategic vision for transformation through service. As people return to increased participation in in-person events following the pandemic, Floris UMC will renew its system of volunteer recruitment, training, deployment and appreciation. The Director will reinvigorate internal volunteer recruitment strategies, while maintaining a robust network of community partnerships. They will ensure that the value of serving will be fully integrated across all Floris ministries.

 

Responsibilities

  • Extensive concentration on recruitment and retention of volunteers to develop viable servant ministry at Floris UMC and in the community. Provides necessary support and training to ensure that leaders receive appropriate development to manage various serve opportunities. Provides spiritual leadership and subject matter expertise to volunteers.
  • Evaluates Floris’ serve ministries and leads in the development and implementation of the serve strategy of the church. Develops short-range and long-range goals for serve ministries and oversees the execution of these goals.
  • Challenges and motivates the congregation to become actively involved in serve ministries, raising the awareness and stimulating the desire to serve within the congregation and in the community.
  • Networks with community organizations and partners, including but not limited to food scarcity programs, school partnerships, local and international projects assisting families and children, and refugee assistance.
  • Evaluates the assistance needs of the congregation and local community for families and individuals that face emergencies, difficult financial situations and other challenges to recommend for approval by the pastoral staff. Works in conjunction with the pastoral staff to coordinate the disbursement of funds.
  • Communicates programmatic issues and perspectives to the management team and lay leaders and stays abreast of and evaluates trends affecting serve ministries and the local church.
  • Directs the daily business operations of the ministry, including oversight of the serve ministries budget and allocation of designated funds.
  • Supervises the serve ministries staff, to include overall direction, goal setting and performance management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 

Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years managing a large and complex volunteer-based social services program, as well as the experience to recruit and manage volunteers. Minimum of 2 years’ demonstrated leadership experience in a non–profit or other comparable organization that focuses on community involvement and volunteer recruitment preferred.
  • Strong business management experience managing a social outreach program that includes understanding networking, fundraising and grant writing.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a collaborative way.
  • Demonstrated background in working for or practicing in a Christian service environment, preferably United Methodist, where individual spiritual gifts can be used to facilitate the mission of Floris UMC, which is making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Student Ministries Coordinator

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Part-time, 25 hours/week
Supervisory: No
Reports to: Student Ministries Director

To further that vision, we are seeking a dynamic Student Ministries Coordinator that shares our passion for Jesus Christ and a heart for young people.

 

Summary Description

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Student Ministries programs of Floris UMC, providing administrative support and coordination of process to the Student Ministries area.

 

Responsibilities

  • Following the direction and guidance of the Student Ministries Director, responsible for the coordination (including promotion, registration and implementation) of Student Ministries’ life groups, events and mission trips. Coordination includes working with vendors and event sponsors/supporters, summer interns, parents, students, and Church staff.
  • Coordinate the administrative details of all programs, events, communications and life groups for the Student Ministries department, including but not limited to communication with parents and staff, editing and proofing emails and updating information.
  • Update and maintain the social media postings for Student Ministries and provide overall support for online groups throughout all social media platforms for students.
  • At the direction of the Student Ministries Director, maintain financial records, including receipt verification and funding requests to/from Student families, monitor budget spending and assist with monthly credit card reconciliation.
  • Provide program set-up and support for Sunday Night programs (Bright Life and Xroads) and actively connect and build relationships during programs and events. Provide logistical support for other Grow Ministries’ programs as needed.
  • Maintain and update database records and reports, including attendance, for Student Ministries and provide reporting as needed.
  • Assist in recruitment of all volunteers to serve in various capacities of Student Ministries.
  • Assist the Student Ministries Director to provide service opportunities to middle school and high school students in conjunction and in partnership with the Director of Serve Ministries.
  • Attend all necessary meetings as directed by the Executive Director, the Director of Grow Ministries and the Student Ministries Director to ensure that administrative tasks and work are in-line with the Lead Pastor’s overall vision and the direction of the Student Ministries.

 

Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent OR a minimum of 2 years’ experience in assisting with a large program area that requires using a diverse set of administrative skills to manage a large and expanding program involving students and/or children.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with a proven history of time management, priorities and deadlines and the ability to coordinate and work with other organizations or other Church staff.
  • Experience providing office support and use of office equipment such as copiers, folding machines, etc.
  • Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word and Outlook and a strong background in social media outlets and web-based platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to work as a team player.

Child Care Worker (Restoration Reston)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, 2.5-3 hours, Sunday mornings
Supervisory: No
Reports to: Kids’ Ministry Coordinator – Restoration

 

Summary Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure care and safety of children in the Restoration child care area while maintaining a loving and inclusive environment for all children.

 

Responsibilities

Following the direction and guidance of the Kids’ Ministry Coordinator – Restoration, this position is responsible for:

  1. Interact with the children in a nurturing way that conveys loving care and respect to create a safe and calm environment.
  2. Observe and monitor children’s play activities.
  3. Assist in the creation of an environment with appropriate developmental activities that promotes the Christian faith.
  4. Follow the schedule provided by the Kids’ Ministry Coordinator – Restoration.
  5. Organize and store toys and materials to ensure order in activity areas throughout the program time.
  6. Assist with setup and cleanup of the childcare rooms.
  7. Maintain complete and accurate check in/out records of children participating in the childcare program.
  8. Attend to the personal hygiene of each child, including changing diapers or soiled clothing, restroom visits and washing hands.
  9. Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.
  10. Maintain an open, friendly and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program.
  11. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
  12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Kids’ Ministry Coordinator – Restoration.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a childcare setting
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the children and program.
  • Ability to communicate in effectively in English (verbal and written).
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with calm and control.
  • Ability to routinely lift children and move furniture in an early childhood classroom.
