Backpack MealsI would say that Floris has a big heart for children. You see it in our wonderful programming for our children and students in our church. You see it in the transformative work we do in Sierra Leone through the Child Rescue Centre and Mercy Hospital.

You also see it in our partnership with Hutchison Elementary, which I would like to talk about today. While we do a number of wonderful programs and ministries with Hutchison, I would like to tell you about our Help Hungry Kids ministry.

For those of you who are unfamiliar of our Help Hungry Kids ministry, it began a few years ago when the church learned that many children at Hutchison Elementary were hungry during the weekends. This reality spurred Floris to respond. Today, Floris provides weekend meals to more than 90 students weekly at Hutchison Elementary and 20 students weekly at McNair Elementary. Where do these food bags come from? From our packaging event that we held in August, individual donations on the first Sunday of each month, and small groups that package meals as service projects.

Consider getting involved by donating Help Hungry Kids bags the first Sunday of each month. For more information, go here: http://www.florisumc.org/553656.ihtml. For those of you looking for service projects for your group, consider having a packaging event; I’d be glad to help.
