The last week of school is a time of joy and celebration for kids everywhere. This has been muted by the death of Bennett Rill, a Floris member who was confirmed at Floris UMC this spring and who had just completed the 8th grade. I have spent time with the Rills this week and have seen how so many of you have ministered to their family. At times like this our area, which often seems so large, becomes like a small town where we see the overlap in the people we encounter in our church, schools, neighborhoods and work. This Sunday was to be Laity Sunday. Instead, I plan to return from Annual Conference in Hampton after I preach at the Ordination Service Saturday night. On Sunday I will preach a sermon entitled Comforting Those Who Mourn. I will talk about how we can bless each other in times of loss and sorrow as so many of you have done this week.

Latino Ministry
Floris UMC has a vibrant Latino Ministry. I want to share with you some of the exciting things that are happening. This past Saturday night 15 new members joined Floris UMC, and 2 adults and 5 children were baptized. They enjoyed a Father’s Day dinner together after the service and celebrated all that God is doing in the Latino Ministry. Be sure to take a look at the pictures from Saturday Night’s service.

Sandy Mission Trip
One of the great benefits of being a United Methodist is the good we can do when we work in concert with other United Methodist Churches. Our work in New Jersey in response to Hurricane Sandy is an example of that good.Shortly after Hurricane Sandy struck the northeast, Floris UMC responded by donating funds and flood buckets to the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Since that time,Floris UMC has developed a relationship with Lacey UMC and the New Jersey Conference and as a result has assisted multiple families in their recovery efforts. Our next team will head to New Jersey the first week of August. If you are interested in this mission trip, contact Jake McGlothin.

This Week in Worship
The scripture for this week’s sermon is John 14:25-29.

In Christ,
