Dear Floris Family,

Let me begin by expressing my appreciation. I was concerned that due to spring break, we might have a shortage of help for the reception after Bryan Morton’s memorial service today. After hearing the request for volunteers made on Sunday, you signed up and we have enough help. I was touched by your response and know the family and their guests will be grateful as well. It was another example of the loving congregation Floris has always been.

This is Holy Week, when Christians consider the last week of Jesus’ life and death before Easter. Holy Week calls us to read the Scripture and make room for silence, prayer and reflection. Christ has shown us what devotion looks like in his desire for our redemption through his death on the cross. Below is the Holy Week schedule. If you are in town, I look forward to seeing you in worship in this most important season of the Christian year. If you are on vacation, I hope you will find a church where you can attend one of these services.

Holy Thursday
Christ shared an intimate meal with his disciples on the night he was betrayed. This year we will be sharing the story of Jesus’ final days through a drama integrated into our Holy Thursday communion service. This will help us experience the reality of Christ’s last few days. The Holy Thursday service is at 7:30 PM.

Good Friday
Floris’ choirs and orchestra will present “The Lenten Sketches,” a beautiful Holy Week cantata. The words and music of this cantata invite us to walk the journey of Jesus and reflect on God’s grace. I overheard a portion of their rehearsal and can assure you that this will be a powerful experience. The Good Friday service begins at 7:30 PM.

Easter Services
Here is some information that may assist you in deciding which service to attend:

Easter Baptismal Service, Saturday at 7 PM– We now have 14 persons who want tobaptized, and some will do soby immersion! A portable immersion tank is being set up for this purpose. This service offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Easter at Floris and celebrate the baptism of new believers. Baptism is a symbol of rebirth and a spiritual resurrection. I’d like to encourage you to consider this option in an effort to provide more seating for guests on Sunday morning. This service will take place in Fellowship Hall.

Easter Eve Latino Service, Saturday at 7 PM – Our Latino Easter service is offered in Spanish. The sermon will be preached in English and translated to Spanish. I enjoy this service a great deal and someone is always happy to interpret as needed. I think the close-knit community experienced in the first Floris facility is very present at this service. This service will take place in the Sanctuary.

Easter Sunrise 6:15 AM – This is a shorter service, held outside, at the far end of the upper parking lot. Be sure to dress for the cool of early morning. It is wonderful to watch the sun rise and think of the joyful surprise the women experienced that first Easter when they came to Jesus’ tomb.

Easter 8, 9:15 and 11 AM – The music will be led by the sanctuary choir, bells and orchestra during all of the morning services. Last year, the 9:15 and the 11 AM services were very full (about 800 each). If you attend at 9:15 or 11 AM, please use the shuttle at XO Communications/Network Solutions to relieve the parking and traffic congestion. The 8 AM service should have plenty of room (last year there were 445 in attendance). Sign language interpretation will be available at our 9:15 AM service. Please invite your friends to come be a part of our Easter celebration at Floris.

Easter 5 PM – This service will celebrate Easter through music by Full Circle. We will hear testimonies from members of our church about the meaning of new life in Christ rather than a sermon. I found that hearing members of our congregation share their faith and joining in music that worships Christ to be a meaningful way to close Easter Sunday. I hope you will come even if you came to another service.

We need your help on Easter Sunday:

  1. Sign up to volunteer in the parking lot for our morning Easter services.
  2. Attend the Easter Eve, Sunrise, 8 AM or 5 PM service.
  3. Consider carpooling or parking at XO Communications/Network Solutions and use our parking shuttle. Visit our website for details about Easter Sunday Parking.

Grace Ministries Special April Schedule
Due to Floris’ Holy Week activities, we have altered the Grace Ministries schedule on both Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7. If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up here. Clothing drop off will be Friday, April 6 from 3 to 5 PM in the Fellowship Hall. If you have any questions, please contact Courtney Brown.

In Christ,
– Tom
