SUMMARY:Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day
DESCRIPTION:Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day\nCelebrate Earth Day Through Action\nIn celebration of Earth Day\, our Environmental Justice and Stewardship Team invites you to take part in a meaningful opportunity to care for God’s creation right here in our own community. We will be gathering to help clean the watershed area behind our church\, a protected natural space that plays an important role in our local ecosystem. \nWhy This Work Matters\nOver time\, rain and wind naturally carry litter and debris into nearby creekbeds and wetlands. While much of it may go unnoticed\, this buildup can have a lasting impact on the health of the land and waterways. By coming together to clean this area\, we are taking an active step in protecting and preserving a space that God has entrusted to us. \nProtecting Local Waterways\nThis watershed is not only part of our immediate environment\, but it is also connected to a much larger system of waterways. What enters these creekbeds can eventually make its way into the Potomac River and even the Chesapeake Bay. By removing litter at the source\, we are helping reduce pollution downstream and contributing to the long-term health of these vital waters. \nWho Can Participate\nThis event is open to everyone in the community\, and all ages are welcome to participate. Whether you are passionate about environmental stewardship\, looking for a hands-on way to serve\, or simply want to spend time outdoors making a difference\, this is a great opportunity to get involved. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help care for creation. \nVolunteer Sign-Up Information\nWe are seeking volunteers to help make this event possible\, with approximately 60 volunteers needed throughout the day. \n\nVolunteer shifts include: \n\n Setup\n Two 1.5-hour grounds cleanup shifts\n End cleanup\n\nIf you are able to serve\, please sign up using the link below: \nREGISTER HERE > \nWhat to Expect\nParticipants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Gloves and any necessary cleanup supplies will be provided. We also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated as we work together. \nJoin Us in Caring for Creation\nMore than just a cleanup\, this is a chance to live out our shared responsibility to love and care for the world around us. As we serve together\, we are reminded that small acts of stewardship can have a lasting impact on our environment and our community. \nJoin us as we celebrate Earth Day by making a tangible difference. Together\, we can help restore and protect this beautiful watershed area for future generations.

SUMMARY:Earth Day: Battery Recycling
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Earth Day with Purpose\nJoin us in honoring Earth Day by making a meaningful impact in your community. Our Environmental Justice and Stewardship team is hosting a battery recycling event\, and you’re invited to take part in this simple yet powerful act of care for our planet. \nWhy Battery Recycling Matters\nMany household batteries end up in landfills\, where they can leak harmful chemicals into the soil and water. Recycling them properly helps reduce environmental harm and supports responsible stewardship of the resources we’ve been given. \nWhat to Bring\nWe welcome batteries of all sizes commonly used in the home\, from small everyday batteries to larger household types. Simply bring your used batteries and place them in the designated collection bins. Our team will take care of the rest. \nMake an Impact Together\nThis is a great opportunity to declutter your home while contributing to a healthier environment. It’s also a chance to come together as a community and live out our shared commitment to caring for creation. \nJoin Us\nWhether you’ve been saving up old batteries or just have a few to recycle\, every contribution makes a difference. Be part of this Earth Day effort and help us build a culture of stewardship and environmental responsibility.

SUMMARY:In Our Own Voice
DESCRIPTION:In Our Own Voice\nMental health is often misunderstood\, and young adults are not always given the space to speak about their experiences. In Our Own Voice for Youth & Young Adults provides a powerful platform for young adults living with mental health conditions to share their personal stories\, helping to break down assumptions\, challenge stereotypes\, and foster understanding. This program is best suited for audiences between the ages of 14 and 30 and offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from those who live with these conditions every day. \nEach presentation lasts approximately 60 minutes and provides a firsthand account of what it is like to live with a mental health condition. The presenters humanize mental illness by showing that it is possible—and common—to live well while managing mental health challenges. Their stories highlight resilience\, determination\, and hope\, giving audiences a clear picture of the realities and possibilities of life with mental illness. \nAudience Interaction\nA key part of the program is the opportunity to ask questions. Participants can engage directly with the presenters to gain deeper insight into mental health conditions\, treatment options\, coping strategies\, and the day-to-day experiences of young adults living with mental illness. This dialogue helps break down fear and misunderstanding while creating empathy and connection. \nInspiration and Hope\nPerhaps the most important takeaway from the presentation is hope. Every person living with a mental illness can look forward to a bright future. The presenters’ stories demonstrate that mental health conditions do not define a person’s potential or limit their ability to thrive\, pursue goals\, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. \nHow to Join\nThis event is online\, and registration is required. Reserve your spot by signing up here: Register for In Our Own Voice for Youth & Young Adults \nJoin us for In Our Own Voice for Youth & Young Adults and hear firsthand how young people are navigating mental health challenges with courage\, resilience\, and hope. Walk away with a deeper understanding\, fewer assumptions\, and a renewed sense of empathy for those living with mental health conditions.
