SUMMARY:Spiritual Recovery Community
DESCRIPTION:Spiritual Recovery Community: Finding Healing After Church Hurt\nHave you walked away from a faith community or wrestled with the pain of high-control or fear-based religion? You are not alone—and your story matters. Many people carry wounds from spiritual environments that were meant to offer hope but instead left scars of judgment\, fear\, or exclusion. This event is designed with you in mind: a safe\, welcoming space to explore healthier ways of engaging with faith. \nOur time together will focus on topics specific to church-hurt\, spiritual trauma\, and the challenges of deconstructing harmful religious experiences. You’ll have the opportunity to share your frustrations\, ask questions\, and connect with others who understand what you’ve been through. Whether you’re still processing\, searching for new meaning\, or simply longing to be heard\, this is a place where your journey is honored without pressure or judgment. \nWe’ll strive for balance: combining thoughtful\, intellectual conversation about faith and spirituality with opportunities for personal and communal healing. This isn’t about quick fixes or forcing belief—it’s about holding space for honesty\, curiosity\, and growth. Together\, we’ll create a community where listening\, respect\, and compassion guide our conversations. \nIf you’ve ever felt silenced\, dismissed\, or misunderstood in your faith journey\, this gathering offers a chance to breathe\, reflect\, and rediscover hope in a healthier\, more life-giving form of spirituality. \nCome as you are. Bring your questions\, your doubts\, and your story.\n \nYou don’t have to navigate this alone—join us and find support among people who get it. \n\nWhen: 2nd & 4th Wednesdays\, September – June\nTime: 6:00 – 7:15 p.m.\nNot Meeting: November 26\, 2025 & December 24\, 2025\n\nRegister Now >

DESCRIPTION:Artist Reception: Through the Lens: Love\, Serve\, Lead by Alexis Doty\nJoin us for a special Artist Reception honoring Alexis Doty\, Floris UMC’s photographer and videographer\, whose work has helped shape how our community’s story is seen and remembered. \nAlexis is a DMV native\, born and raised in Maryland\, with a lifelong passion for visual storytelling. She began working with video production in high school and has continued to grow that passion into meaningful\, purpose-driven work. Today\, she is the founder of two Herndon-based production companies\, F22 Video Solutions and Memory Lane Productions\, where she helps individuals and families preserve their stories and legacies in their own words. \nAt Floris UMC\, Alexis brings a deeply personal and thoughtful approach to photography and videography. SUMMARY:Through the Lens with Alexis Doty: Love\, Serve\, Lead
DESCRIPTION:Through the Lens: Love\, Serve\, Lead\nAn Art Gallery Experience Featuring the Work of Alexis Doty \nThrough the Lens is an immersive art gallery experience that invites viewers to slow down\, reflect\, and see the sacred in everyday moments. Featuring the photography and videography of Alexis Doty\, this exhibition highlights the quiet beauty\, honest emotion\, and powerful stories found within the life and ministry of Floris UMC. \nTitled Love\, Serve\, Lead\, this show explores what it means to live out faith through action. Each image captures moments of compassion\, service\, leadership\, and connection\, revealing how love is expressed not only through words\, but through presence\, care\, and community. From worship and fellowship to service and outreach\, Alexis’s work offers a visual narrative of a church actively living its calling. \nAs both a photographer and videographer at Floris UMC\, Alexis Doty brings a deeply personal and thoughtful perspective to her work. Her lens focuses on authenticity rather than perfection\, drawing attention to the small but meaningful interactions that often go unnoticed. These images invite viewers to pause\, look closer\, and consider how love\, service\, and leadership are embodied in everyday life. \nThrough the Lens is more than an art show. It is an invitation to reflect on our shared values and how they take shape in real people and real moments. Whether you are part of the Floris community or visiting for the first time\, this exhibition creates space for contemplation\, conversation\, and inspiration. \nGuests are encouraged to move through the gallery at their own pace\, allowing each piece to speak to them personally. The experience is designed to be accessible and welcoming to all\, offering a meaningful way to engage with art\, faith\, and community. \nTo learn more about upcoming exhibits and events\, visit our Art Gallery page. \nJoin us for Through the Lens: Love\, Serve\, Lead and experience a visual journey that celebrates the heart of Floris UMC.
