SUMMARY:Holy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:Holy Thursday Worship Service\nA Sacred Evening of Reflection and Communion\nHoly Thursday is a meaningful and sacred moment in the Christian calendar. On this evening\, we remember Jesus’ final meal with His disciples\, often called the Last Supper. It is a time for the church to gather in worship\, reflection\, and gratitude as we recall the love\, humility\, and service that Jesus demonstrated in His final hours before the cross. \n\nRemember the Last Supper\nHoly Thursday invites us to pause and reflect on one of the most powerful moments in the story of Holy Week. During this service\, we remember the night Jesus gathered with His disciples\, shared a meal with them\, and gave them a lasting example of love and humble service. \nThrough scripture\, prayer\, and reflection\, we will revisit the story of the Last Supper and consider what it means for our lives today. This sacred time helps prepare our hearts as we continue the journey toward Good Friday and the hope of Easter. \n\nShare in Communion\nA central part of this service is the opportunity to share in Holy Communion together as a church community. As we receive the bread and cup\, we remember Christ’s sacrifice and the promise of grace that is extended to all. \nCommunion offers a moment to slow down\, reflect\, and reconnect with God’s love in a meaningful and personal way. \n\nWorship Through Music\nMusic during the service will be led by our modern worship band\, creating an atmosphere of heartfelt praise and reflection. Through worship songs and moments of prayer\, we will come together as a community to honor Christ and prepare our hearts for the days ahead in Holy Week. \n\nJourney Through Holy Week Together\nHoly Thursday marks an important step in the journey of Holy Week. It is a time to gather as a church family\, remember Christ’s example of humility and service\, and walk together through the story of faith that leads to the cross and ultimately to the joy of Easter. \n\nJoin Us\nAll are invited to attend this special evening of worship\, communion\, and reflection. Whether you are a longtime member or visiting for the first time\, you are welcome to join us as we remember the love of Christ and continue the journey through Holy Week together.

SUMMARY:Good Friday Cantata: Witnesses
DESCRIPTION:Good Friday Cantata: Witnesses\nA Musical Journey of Reflection and Faith\nThis year’s Good Friday cantata\, Witnesses\, invites us into a powerful and reflective experience as we gather together to remember the depth of God’s love revealed through Jesus’ sacrifice. Through music\, scripture\, and storytelling\, this sacred performance guides us into the final hours of Christ’s earthly journey and the profound moments witnessed by those who stood nearby. \n\nWalk the Journey of Good Friday\nIn Witnesses\, we are invited to spiritually walk alongside those who were present during Jesus’ final hours. Through moving choral music and thoughtful reflection\, the cantata brings to life the voices and perspectives of those who watched\, mourned\, and believed. \nTogether\, we journey with: \n\nThose who stood faithfully at the cross\nThose who wrestled with grief and uncertainty\nThose whose hearts were forever changed by what they witnessed\n\nThis musical worship experience helps us reflect deeply on the meaning of Good Friday and the love demonstrated through Christ’s sacrifice. \n\nA Meaningful Musical Experience\nThe cantata combines powerful choral arrangements\, narration\, and scripture to create a moving atmosphere of reflection and worship. Each piece builds on the story\, drawing listeners into the emotional and spiritual significance of the day. \nAs the music unfolds\, the congregation is invited to pause\, listen\, and reflect on the extraordinary love that lies at the heart of the Easter story. \n\nSent Forth as Witnesses\nThe journey of Witnesses does not end at the cross. From this sacred moment of remembrance\, we are reminded that we too are called to be witnesses of God’s love in the world today. \nThrough Christ’s sacrifice and grace\, we are renewed and sent forward with hope\, faith\, and purpose\, carrying the message of love and redemption into our communities and daily lives. \n\nJoin Us for This Special Good Friday Worship Experience\nThis Good Friday cantata offers a meaningful opportunity to gather in worship\, reflect on Christ’s sacrifice\, and prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. \nAll are welcome to attend and experience this powerful expression of faith through music. \nCome and be part of this sacred journey and leave renewed as a witness to the love of Christ Jesus.

SUMMARY:Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day
DESCRIPTION:Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day\nCelebrate Earth Day Through Action\nIn celebration of Earth Day\, our Environmental Justice and Stewardship Team invites you to take part in a meaningful opportunity to care for God’s creation right here in our own community. We will be gathering to help clean the watershed area behind our church\, a protected natural space that plays an important role in our local ecosystem. \nWhy This Work Matters\nOver time\, rain and wind naturally carry litter and debris into nearby creekbeds and wetlands. While much of it may go unnoticed\, this buildup can have a lasting impact on the health of the land and waterways. By coming together to clean this area\, we are taking an active step in protecting and preserving a space that God has entrusted to us. \nProtecting Local Waterways\nThis watershed is not only part of our immediate environment\, but it is also connected to a much larger system of waterways. What enters these creekbeds can eventually make its way into the Potomac River and even the Chesapeake Bay. By removing litter at the source\, we are helping reduce pollution downstream and contributing to the long-term health of these vital waters. \nWho Can Participate\nThis event is open to everyone in the community\, and all ages are welcome to participate. Whether you are passionate about environmental stewardship\, looking for a hands-on way to serve\, or simply want to spend time outdoors making a difference\, this is a great opportunity to get involved. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help care for creation. \nVolunteer Sign-Up Information\nWe are seeking volunteers to help make this event possible\, with approximately 60 volunteers needed throughout the day. \n\nVolunteer shifts include: \n\n Setup\n Two 1.5-hour grounds cleanup shifts\n End cleanup\n\nIf you are able to serve\, please sign up using the link below: \nREGISTER HERE > \nWhat to Expect\nParticipants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Gloves and any necessary cleanup supplies will be provided. We also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated as we work together. \nJoin Us in Caring for Creation\nMore than just a cleanup\, this is a chance to live out our shared responsibility to love and care for the world around us. As we serve together\, we are reminded that small acts of stewardship can have a lasting impact on our environment and our community. \nJoin us as we celebrate Earth Day by making a tangible difference. Together\, we can help restore and protect this beautiful watershed area for future generations.

Our Environmental Justice and Stewardship team is hosting a battery recycling event\, and you’re invited to take part in this simple yet powerful act of care for our planet. \nWhy Battery Recycling Matters\nMany household batteries end up in landfills\, where they can leak harmful chemicals into the soil and water. Simply bring your used batteries and place them in the designated collection bins. Our team will take care of the rest. \nMake an Impact Together\nThis is a great opportunity to declutter your home while contributing to a healthier environment. It’s also a chance to come together as a community and live out our shared commitment to caring for creation. \nJoin Us\nWhether you’ve been saving up old batteries or just have a few to recycle\, every contribution makes a difference. Be part of this Earth Day effort and help us build a culture of stewardship and environmental responsibility.

SUMMARY:In Our Own Voice
DESCRIPTION:In Our Own Voice\nMental health is often misunderstood\, and young adults are not always given the space to speak about their experiences. In Our Own Voice for Youth & Young Adults provides a powerful platform for young adults living with mental health conditions to share their personal stories\, helping to break down assumptions\, challenge stereotypes\, and foster understanding. This program is best suited for audiences between the ages of 14 and 30 and offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from those who live with these conditions every day. \nEach presentation lasts approximately 60 minutes and provides a firsthand account of what it is like to live with a mental health condition. The presenters humanize mental illness by showing that it is possible—and common—to live well while managing mental health challenges. Their stories highlight resilience\, determination\, and hope\, giving audiences a clear picture of the realities and possibilities of life with mental illness. \nAudience Interaction\nA key part of the program is the opportunity to ask questions. Participants can engage directly with the presenters to gain deeper insight into mental health conditions\, treatment options\, coping strategies\, and the day-to-day experiences of young adults living with mental illness. This dialogue helps break down fear and misunderstanding while creating empathy and connection. \nInspiration and Hope\nPerhaps the most important takeaway from the presentation is hope. Every person living with a mental illness can look forward to a bright future. The presenters’ stories demonstrate that mental health conditions do not define a person’s potential or limit their ability to thrive\, pursue goals\, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. \nHow to Join\nThis event is online\, and registration is required. Reserve your spot by signing up here: Register for In Our Own Voice for Youth & Young Adults \nJoin us for In Our Own Voice for Youth & Young Adults and hear firsthand how young people are navigating mental health challenges with courage\, resilience\, and hope. At Floris UMC\, we know this is also the perfect stage to help students discover the joy of serving others while building a community of their own. That’s why we created F.I.S.H. Each month offers a new adventure—one that keeps kids excited to come back\, connect with friends\, and grow in their faith. One month might bring the thrill of a scavenger hunt or the laughter of a game night\, while another invites the group to roll up their sleeves for a hands-on service project that makes a difference in our local community. From progressive dinners to festive Christmas parties\, every event is designed to help kids form lasting memories while learning that following Jesus is both joyful and impactful. \nAt its heart\, F.I.S.H. is about connection—connection with peers\, connection with caring adult leaders\, and connection with God. Students will not only enjoy fun activities\, but also discover how their time\, talents\, and energy can serve others in meaningful ways. It’s a safe\, supportive environment where kids can be themselves\, build friendships\, and experience the values of compassion\, kindness\, and service in action. \nWe invite all fifth graders to come and see what F.I.S.H. is all about. Whether your child is new to Floris or has been part of our community for years\, they’ll find a welcoming space where they belong.
