SUMMARY:All Saints Sunday Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:All Saints Sunday Remembrance\nHonoring the people who have shaped our lives and faith stories. \nJoin us on Sunday\, November 1\, for All Saints Sunday Remembrance\, a special opportunity to remember and give thanks for all of those who have gone before us and have been a part of our life and faith stories. \nThroughout our lives\, we encounter people whose love\, wisdom\, faith\, and kindness leave a lasting impression on us. They may be family members\, dear friends\, mentors\, or members of our church community who helped shape who we are and how we walk in faith. Although they may no longer be physically present with us\, their influence continues to live on in the memories we cherish\, the lessons they taught us\, and the faith they helped nurture. \nAll Saints Sunday invites us to pause and reflect on the lives of these special people we hold dear. It is a time to celebrate their lasting impact\, express gratitude for the time we shared with them\, and recognize the many ways they remain a meaningful part of our stories. \nInclude Your Saints in Our Remembrance\nOn Sunday\, November 1\, we invite you to bring a photograph of someone you’d like to honor to be included in our memorial remembrance display. Together\, we will create a meaningful collection that celebrates the lives\, memories\, and legacies of those who have touched our hearts. \nDon’t have a photograph? You can still participate! You will also have an opportunity to write down the name of someone you’d like to remember or draw a picture of them. Whether you bring a cherished photograph\, write a name\, or create a drawing\, your contribution is a meaningful way to honor someone who has been part of your life and faith journey. \nThis is an opportunity to include your own “saints” in our All Saints Remembrance. There is no single way to remember someone\, and every story\, relationship\, and expression of love is welcome. \nRemembering Together\nAs we gather in remembrance\, may we find comfort in shared memories\, gratitude in the lives that have shaped us\, and encouragement in the faith that connects us across generations. We invite you to take part in this special observance as we honor those who have gone before us and celebrate the lasting place they hold in our hearts. \nJoin us November 1. Bring a photo\, write a name\, or draw a picture\, and help us honor the saints who are part of our life and faith stories.

SUMMARY:Chapel Open for Election Day
DESCRIPTION:Chapel Open for Election Day\nTake a moment to pause\, pray\, and reflect. \nElection Day is an opportunity to reflect on our communities\, our neighbors\, and the future we hope to build together. On Tuesday\, November 3\, our chapel will be open throughout the day\, offering a quiet and welcoming space for prayer\, reflection\, and contemplation. \nWhether you’re preparing to vote\, have already cast your ballot\, or simply want a moment of peace amid the busyness of the day\, we invite you to stop by the chapel. Take a few minutes to step away from daily distractions\, settle your thoughts\, and spend time in prayer. \nA Space for Prayer and Reflection\nIn a season when conversations about our nation’s future can bring a range of emotions\, making space for stillness can be meaningful. Our chapel offers an opportunity to pause\, seek God’s presence\, and reflect on the values that guide us\, including compassion\, justice\, wisdom\, and love for our neighbors. \nYou may wish to pray for our nation\, our local community\, elected leaders\, and all those who serve the public. You might also use this time to pray for people with different perspectives and experiences\, asking God to help us approach one another with humility\, grace\, and understanding. \nThere is no special preparation or formal participation required. Come as you are\, stay for a few moments or longer\, and use the space in whatever way is meaningful to you. \nPraying for Our Community and Our Nation\nAs people of faith\, we have an opportunity to lift up our communities in prayer\, especially during moments that shape our shared civic life. We can pray for wisdom for those making decisions\, peace among our neighbors\, and a spirit of unity that allows us to care for one another even when we disagree. \nOpening the chapel on Election Day is a simple way to make room for these prayers and reflections. It is an invitation to turn our attention toward God\, remember our shared humanity\, and seek guidance for the days ahead. \nYou’re Invited\nOur chapel will be open all day on Tuesday\, November 3\, 2026. We welcome you to stop in whenever it works for you and spend some time in quiet prayer and reflection. \nWhether you come for a brief moment of stillness or a longer time of prayer\, we hope the chapel provides a peaceful place to pause and reconnect with what matters most. \nJoin us in making space for prayer\, peace\, and hope this Election Day.

SUMMARY:Falls Grounds and Watershed Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:Falls Grounds and Watershed Clean-up\nCelebrate Earth Day Through Action\nIn celebration of Earth Day\, our Environmental Justice and Stewardship Team invites you to take part in a meaningful opportunity to care for God’s creation right here in our own community. We will be gathering to help clean the watershed area behind our church\, a protected natural space that plays an important role in our local ecosystem. \nWhy This Work Matters\nOver time\, rain and wind naturally carry litter and debris into nearby creekbeds and wetlands. While much of it may go unnoticed\, this buildup can have a lasting impact on the health of the land and waterways. By coming together to clean this area\, we are taking an active step in protecting and preserving a space that God has entrusted to us. \nProtecting Local Waterways\nThis watershed is not only part of our immediate environment\, but it is also connected to a much larger system of waterways. What enters these creekbeds can eventually make its way into the Potomac River and even the Chesapeake Bay. By removing litter at the source\, we are helping reduce pollution downstream and contributing to the long-term health of these vital waters. \nWho Can Participate\nThis event is open to everyone in the community\, and all ages are welcome to participate. Whether you are passionate about environmental stewardship\, looking for a hands-on way to serve\, or simply want to spend time outdoors making a difference\, this is a great opportunity to get involved. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help care for creation. \n\nRegister Now >\nWhat to Expect\nParticipants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Gloves and any necessary cleanup supplies will be provided. We also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated as we work together. \nJoin Us in Caring for Creation\nMore than just a cleanup\, this is a chance to live out our shared responsibility to love and care for the world around us. As we serve together\, we are reminded that small acts of stewardship can have a lasting impact on our environment and our community. \nJoin us as we celebrate Earth Day by making a tangible difference. Together\, we can help restore and protect this beautiful watershed area for future generations.

SUMMARY:Advent Giving Christmas Tree
DESCRIPTION:Advent Giving Christmas Tree: Bless Our Community This Season\nShare the love of Christ this Christmas through a simple act of generosity! \nThe Christmas season is a time for joy\, hope\, and giving. It’s also an opportunity to remind our neighbors that they are loved\, valued\, and never forgotten. This year\, you can help make Christmas a little brighter for individuals and families in our local community through our Advent Giving Christmas Tree! \nFrom November 8 through December 6\, 2026\, we invite you to visit the Giving Tree in the church building and choose an ornament (or two!) featuring a gift request from someone in need. Each ornament represents a real person in our community and an opportunity to share kindness in a meaningful\, tangible way. \nWhether you choose one gift or several\, your generosity can make a difference. A requested item may seem like a small gesture\, but for the person receiving it\, it can bring comfort\, encouragement\, and a powerful reminder that someone cares. By participating\, you’re helping ensure that more of our neighbors experience the warmth and joy of the Christmas season. \nHow to Participate\nGetting involved is easy! \n\nVisit the Giving Tree. Stop by the church building beginning November 8 and select an ornament with a gift request.\nPurchase the requested gift. Choose the item listed on your ornament and help make someone’s Christmas brighter.\nReturn your unwrapped gift. Bring your gift back to the church no later than December 6\, 2026. Please leave all gifts unwrapped so they can be properly organized and distributed.\n\nEvery gift is an opportunity to share hope\, spread joy\, and show love to someone who may need a little extra support this season. \nBe a Blessing This Christmas\nAs we journey through Advent and prepare our hearts for Christmas\, let’s remember that giving is one of the ways we put our faith into action. Through the Advent Giving Christmas Tree\, we can come together as a church family to care for our neighbors and reflect the love of Christ beyond the walls of our church. \nYou don’t have to do something extraordinary to make a difference. Sometimes\, a single gift is enough to remind someone that they matter. \nLet’s bless our community this season\, one gift at a time! \nFor more information about the Advent Giving Christmas Tree\, contact Debbie Cali.

Students take the lead in the kitchen\, plan the menu\, set the tables\, and serve a delicious\, traditional feast to their families as a way of saying thank you. \nThe evening will include a time of fellowship\, laughter\, and reflection as we gather around the table to celebrate the season of thankfulness. Families will enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with joy\, teamwork\, and connection—a true reminder of what church community is all about. \nThis event is open to all XRoads families\, and everyone is encouraged to come hungry and ready to be blessed by the hospitality and hard work of our students. \nDon’t miss this wonderful opportunity to support and celebrate our youth as they put their faith into action through service and gratitude. \nFor more information\, contact Pepe Miller at pmiller@florisumc.org. \nView photos from past Thanksgiving dinners here. \nJoin us for an unforgettable evening of food\, faith\, and fellowship as we give thanks together!

SUMMARY:Advent Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:Share Hope This Advent: Join Our Advent Food Drive\nAdvent is a season of hope\, love\, peace\, and generosity. As we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth\, we invite you to put faith into action by participating in our Advent Food Drive. \nThis seasonal food collection brings our congregation together to support individuals and families in need throughout our community. By donating nonperishable food items\, you can help provide essential nourishment to our neighbors and remind them that they are not alone. \nGive the Gift of Nourishment\nFor many individuals and families\, access to food can be a daily challenge\, especially during the holiday season. Our Advent Food Drive offers a meaningful opportunity to help meet this need while sharing the compassion and love at the heart of the Christmas season. \nEvery donation\, no matter the size\, can make a difference. A few cans of vegetables\, a box of pasta\, or a package of rice may seem like a small contribution\, but together\, our gifts can help provide meals and bring comfort to those facing food insecurity. \nYou do not have to make a large donation to have a meaningful impact. Every item given is an opportunity to care for our neighbors and serve our community. \nPut Your Faith Into Action\nThroughout Advent\, we remember the hope and love Jesus brings into the world. The Advent Food Drive is one way we can reflect that love through practical acts of kindness and service. \nWhether you contribute a few pantry staples or encourage your family and friends to participate\, you are helping build a community where people care for one another. This is an opportunity for individuals and families of all ages to embrace the spirit of giving and make generosity part of their Advent traditions. \nAs we prepare to celebrate Christmas\, let’s remember that the season is about more than the gifts we exchange. It is also about the love we share\, the needs we help meet\, and the hope we bring to others. \nItems Needed for Our Advent Food Drive\nHelp us nourish our neighbors this Advent season by donating the following nonperishable food items. Every contribution makes a difference! \n\nRice: 1–5 lb bags\nPeanut butter\nJelly\nMasa: 5 lb bags\nSpaghetti: 1 lb packages\nSpaghetti sauce: Jars\nCanned vegetables and beans\nCanned fruit\nCanned chicken or tuna\nCooking oil: 24 oz bottles\n\nThank you for your generosity and for helping us share hope and care with individuals and families in our community! \nHow to Donate\nYou can support the Advent Food Drive by donating nonperishable food items during our collection hours. Consider checking your pantry\, adding a few extra items to your grocery list\, or inviting others to join you in giving. \nFood collection hours: \n\nMonday–Thursday: 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.\nSunday: 7:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.\n\nPlease plan your drop-off during these designated hours. \nShare Hope This Advent\nAs we prepare to celebrate Christmas\, let’s remember that even a small act of generosity can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. \nTogether\, we can nourish our neighbors\, strengthen our community\, and share the love of Christ\, one donation at a time. Thank you for being part of this season of giving and for helping make our community a place of compassion\, generosity\, and care.
