SUMMARY:Big Truck Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Us at Frying Pan Farm Park for Big Truck Night!\nOn Friday\, August 1\, Floris UMC will be participating in a special community event at Frying Pan Farm Park—and we’d love for you and your family to stop by and say hello! \nThis is a fun\, family-friendly evening where local organizations and neighbors come together to build community and enjoy the outdoors. We’ll be setting up a booth to share the love and welcome of Floris with everyone who attends. \nBe sure to look for the Floris bus\, which will be parked on-site and filled with a few surprise passengers—giant stuffed animals buckled into the seats! It’s a playful and whimsical way for kids (and adults!) to interact with us and learn more about what we do. \nAt our booth\, you can: \n\nPick up handouts featuring exciting family events happening at Floris this fall.\nGrab a refreshing cup of lemonade or water (while supplies last).\nTake home fun giveaway items like Floris stickers or small family-friendly items.\nMeet members of our church family and learn about ways to get involved.\n\nWhether you’ve been part of Floris for years or are just curious to learn more\, this is a great chance to connect\, ask questions\, and get to know some of the people who make our community so special. \nWe hope to see you there—and bring a friend or neighbor along for the fun!

SUMMARY:Teacher Blessing
DESCRIPTION:Back-to-School Teacher Blessing — Sunday\, August 10 \nWe believe that teaching is more than a job — it’s a calling that shapes the future. As a new school year begins\, we want to pause and lift up every teacher\, Sunday School leader\, school staff member\, and educator in our community. \nJoin us on Sunday\, August 10\, for a special Teacher Blessing during our service. Together\, we will pray for our teachers — for wisdom\, patience\, creativity\, and strength — as they step into classrooms\, hallways\, offices\, and playgrounds ready to make a difference. \nWhether you teach in a public school\, private school\, homeschool\, or lead one of our Sunday School classes\, we want you to know you are seen\, valued\, and supported. During the blessing\, each teacher and school staff member will receive a small gift as a token of our gratitude and a reminder that your church family is cheering you on throughout the year. \nWe invite every teacher to come and stand with us that Sunday — and if you know a teacher\, please invite them to attend. This is a wonderful moment for us to surround our educators with love and prayer as they prepare for the challenges and joys of a new academic year. \nLet’s come together as a church to remind these dedicated servants that they are not alone — we stand with them as they pour into the next generation.

SUMMARY:Yoon Nam - Prayer Garden
DESCRIPTION:Experience Art that Connects Faith\, Creativity\, and Community with Yoon Nam’s Prayer Garden Exhibit\nThe Floris Art Gallery invites you to experience this month’s featured collection – Yoon Nam’s Prayer Garden – a heartfelt exploration of faith and creativity born out of unexpected beginnings. \nDuring the pandemic\, many of us searched for new ways to find peace and purpose in uncertain times. For this month’s artist\, that journey began with simple YouTube tutorials and a paintbrush. What started as a pastime soon transformed into a spiritual practice—a way of slowing down\, listening\, and becoming more aware of God’s presence in the quiet moments of each day. \nThough not formally trained\, the artist discovered that painting could be more than just creating images on canvas. Each brushstroke became both a prayer and a reflection\, offering gratitude for the gift of life. Through this practice\, a deeper way of seeing the world emerged—one that celebrates simplicity\, beauty\, and stillness. \nThe collection features scenes of nature—trees reaching toward the sky\, flowers bursting with color\, waterscapes reflecting peace\, and skies alive with light. These works are not simply depictions of creation but invitations to experience it anew. They remind us that God’s beauty is always present—in the ordinary\, in the quiet\, and in the wonder we often overlook. \nWhen you visit the Floris Art Gallery this month\, you’ll encounter more than artwork on the walls. You’ll step into a space where faith and creativity meet\, where each piece is an offering of hope\, gratitude\, and awe. Whether you are an art enthusiast\, a seeker of spiritual reflection\, or simply someone who longs for a moment of stillness\, this exhibition offers a place to pause\, breathe\, and be renewed. \nLearn more about this month’s exhibition on our Art Gallery page. \nThe Floris Art Gallery also welcomes artists in our community to share their gifts. If you are interested in submitting your own work for consideration\, we invite you to apply to exhibit with us. \nCome and experience art that draws you closer to God\, to creation\, and to community.

Anyone with a desire to stop drinking is welcome\, regardless of race\, gender\, sexual orientation\, religion\, income or profession. And it’s free. At meetings you can just sit and listen and learn more about recovery\, or you can share about your situation. It’s completely up to you. A.A.’s primary purpose is to help alcoholics achieve sobriety.\nAlcoholics Anonymous > |  Virginia AA >\n  \nFor more information\, contact us at florishappyhour@gmail.com.
