SUMMARY:Reclaiming the Heart of Methodism Book Study
DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Heart of Methodism Book Study\nWhat does it mean to live out the heart of Methodism in the 21st century? \nJoin us on Sunday\, October 4\, between services in the Fellowship Hall (FH) for a video presentation featuring Ashley Boggan\, author of Wesleyan Vitality: Reclaiming the Heart of Methodist Identity. This presentation invites us to look back at the roots of the Methodist movement and consider what John Wesley’s faith\, ministry\, and response to the Holy Spirit might have to say to us today. \nNo registration is needed for the October 4 video presentation. Simply stay after the 9am service or attend before the 11 am service and join the congregation for this opportunity to learn\, reflect\, and explore the Methodist tradition together. \nGo Deeper Through the Book Study\nThe conversation will continue beginning Monday\, October 12\, with a six-week book study led by Meredith Vines-Hall and Ted Pauls. \nTogether\, we’ll explore Wesleyan Vitality: Reclaiming the Heart of Methodist Identity and consider what it means to engage our Wesleyan heritage in a 21st-century world. \nThe book takes us back to the beginning of the Methodist movement and to John Wesley’s call by the Holy Spirit. Through Wesley’s story and the foundations of the Methodist tradition\, we’ll have an opportunity to reflect on our own faith journeys and ask how these ideas can shape the way we live\, worship\, serve\, and follow Christ today. \nFrom Wesley’s Story to Our Own\nThis study is an invitation to do more than learn about Methodist history. It is an opportunity to consider how the heart of the Wesleyan tradition continues to speak to our lives and our community of faith. \nOver six weeks\, we’ll read\, discuss\, ask questions\, and explore what it might look like to reclaim the vitality at the heart of our Methodist identity. \nCome for the video presentation\, and participate in the six-week book study. the conversation. \nWatch. SUMMARY:Grief to Peace
DESCRIPTION:Grief to Peace\nGrief can change the way we see the world. When you’re grieving the loss of someone you love\, you may find yourself carrying emotions\, questions\, and experiences that are difficult to navigate alone. Grief to Peace is a six-week support group at Floris designed to provide a caring space for those walking through grief and seeking hope\, connection\, and peace. \nBeginning October 14\, this weekly group will bring people together to share\, listen\, reflect\, and explore faith in the midst of loss. Whether your grief is recent or you’ve been carrying it for some time\, you are welcome. \nA Place to Grieve Together\nGrief doesn’t follow a predictable timeline\, and there is no single right way to experience it. Grief to Peace offers an opportunity to connect with others who understand the challenges of losing someone important. \nEach gathering incorporates: \n\nScripture study to explore faith and hope in the midst of grief\nWhole-group discussion and opportunities to listen and connect\nPersonal sharing for those who feel comfortable participating\nPrayer and space for reflection\n\nYou are never required to share more than you’re comfortable sharing. Sometimes simply being in a room with others who understand can be meaningful. \nFinding Hope in the Journey\nGrief can feel isolating\, but you don’t have to walk through it alone. Together\, we’ll create space for honest conversations about loss while exploring the ways faith can offer comfort\, strength\, and hope. \nThis group isn’t about rushing through grief or finding quick answers. It’s about making room for the experience of loss while being supported by a caring community. \nOver six weeks\, participants will have the opportunity to build connections\, reflect on their experiences\, and explore what it means to move toward peace while continuing to honor the people and relationships they have lost. \nJoin Us This Fall\nGrief to Peace meets Wednesdays from 7–8:30 p.m.\, October 21 through November 18\, 2026\, at Floris UMC. \nThe group is limited to a small number of participants to help create an environment where meaningful connection and conversation can take place. Registration is required. \nIf you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one\, we invite you to take this step toward connection and support. \nYou don’t have to have everything figured out. You simply have to show up. \nCome as you are. Grieve together. Find connection. Explore hope. Move toward peace. \nRegister for Grief to Peace\nRegistration is open through October 21\, 2026. There is no cost to participate. \nRegister Here >

SUMMARY:All Saints Sunday Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:All Saints Sunday Remembrance\nHonoring the people who have shaped our lives and faith stories. \nJoin us on Sunday\, November 1\, for All Saints Sunday Remembrance\, a special opportunity to remember and give thanks for all of those who have gone before us and have been a part of our life and faith stories. \nThroughout our lives\, we encounter people whose love\, wisdom\, faith\, and kindness leave a lasting impression on us. They may be family members\, dear friends\, mentors\, or members of our church community who helped shape who we are and how we walk in faith. Although they may no longer be physically present with us\, their influence continues to live on in the memories we cherish\, the lessons they taught us\, and the faith they helped nurture. \nAll Saints Sunday invites us to pause and reflect on the lives of these special people we hold dear. It is a time to celebrate their lasting impact\, express gratitude for the time we shared with them\, and recognize the many ways they remain a meaningful part of our stories. \nInclude Your Saints in Our Remembrance\nOn Sunday\, November 1\, we invite you to bring a photograph of someone you’d like to honor to be included in our memorial remembrance display. Together\, we will create a meaningful collection that celebrates the lives\, memories\, and legacies of those who have touched our hearts. \nDon’t have a photograph? You can still participate! You will also have an opportunity to write down the name of someone you’d like to remember or draw a picture of them. Whether you bring a cherished photograph\, write a name\, or create a drawing\, your contribution is a meaningful way to honor someone who has been part of your life and faith journey. \nThis is an opportunity to include your own “saints” in our All Saints Remembrance. There is no single way to remember someone\, and every story\, relationship\, and expression of love is welcome. \nRemembering Together\nAs we gather in remembrance\, may we find comfort in shared memories\, gratitude in the lives that have shaped us\, and encouragement in the faith that connects us across generations. We invite you to take part in this special observance as we honor those who have gone before us and celebrate the lasting place they hold in our hearts. \nJoin us November 1. Bring a photo\, write a name\, or draw a picture\, and help us honor the saints who are part of our life and faith stories.

SUMMARY:Lamb Center Casseroles
DESCRIPTION:Serving Lamb Center: Student Casserole Ministry\nSmall acts of service can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors. \nEach month\, our students come together to prepare casseroles for the Lamb Center\, a daytime drop-in shelter in Fairfax County that serves individuals experiencing homelessness and those in need. Through this hands-on service opportunity\, students put their faith into action by helping provide nourishing meals to people in our wider community. \nSharing God’s Love Through Service\nAt the heart of this ministry is a simple but powerful idea: caring for others begins with recognizing their needs and finding meaningful ways to help. Preparing casseroles may seem like a small act\, but each meal represents time\, effort\, and a willingness to serve someone beyond our immediate circles. \nBy preparing food for the Lamb Center\, our students help support an organization that offers essential services and a welcoming place for people facing difficult circumstances. Their contributions are one way our church community can extend care and compassion to our neighbors. \nThis monthly tradition also gives students an opportunity to see how faith can shape everyday actions. Service is not always about grand gestures or solving every challenge at once. Sometimes\, it means working together\, preparing a meal\, and offering something practical to someone who needs it. \nGrowing in Faith Through Giving\nServing others is an important part of growing in faith. When students participate in this ministry\, they learn the value of generosity\, teamwork\, and compassion. They discover that even simple tasks can have a purpose when they are done with care and a desire to help others. \nPreparing casseroles together creates space for students to build connections\, work toward a shared goal\, and reflect on what it means to love their neighbors. These experiences can help nurture a lifelong commitment to serving others and making a positive difference in the community. \nSupporting the Lamb Center\nThe Lamb Center provides support to individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. Through this monthly casserole ministry\, our students help contribute meals for those who access the center’s services. \nWe are grateful for every student who gives their time and energy to this effort. Their willingness to serve reminds us that we all have something to offer\, and that working together allows small acts of kindness to reach beyond our church walls. \nTogether\, we can nourish our neighbors\, grow in faith\, and share God’s love one casserole at a time.

On Tuesday\, November 3\, our chapel will be open throughout the day\, offering a quiet and welcoming space for prayer\, reflection\, and contemplation. \nWhether you’re preparing to vote\, have already cast your ballot\, or simply want a moment of peace amid the busyness of the day\, we invite you to stop by the chapel. Take a few minutes to step away from daily distractions\, settle your thoughts\, and spend time in prayer. \nA Space for Prayer and Reflection\nIn a season when conversations about our nation’s future can bring a range of emotions\, making space for stillness can be meaningful. Our chapel offers an opportunity to pause\, seek God’s presence\, and reflect on the values that guide us\, including compassion\, justice\, wisdom\, and love for our neighbors. \nYou may wish to pray for our nation\, our local community\, elected leaders\, and all those who serve the public. You might also use this time to pray for people with different perspectives and experiences\, asking God to help us approach one another with humility\, grace\, and understanding. \nThere is no special preparation or formal participation required. Come as you are\, stay for a few moments or longer\, and use the space in whatever way is meaningful to you. \nPraying for Our Community and Our Nation\nAs people of faith\, we have an opportunity to lift up our communities in prayer\, especially during moments that shape our shared civic life. We can pray for wisdom for those making decisions\, peace among our neighbors\, and a spirit of unity that allows us to care for one another even when we disagree. \nOpening the chapel on Election Day is a simple way to make room for these prayers and reflections. It is an invitation to turn our attention toward God\, remember our shared humanity\, and seek guidance for the days ahead. \nYou’re Invited\nOur chapel will be open all day on Tuesday\, November 3\, 2026. We welcome you to stop in whenever it works for you and spend some time in quiet prayer and reflection. \nWhether you come for a brief moment of stillness or a longer time of prayer\, we hope the chapel provides a peaceful place to pause and reconnect with what matters most. \nJoin us in making space for prayer\, peace\, and hope this Election Day.
