SUMMARY:South Asian Worship & Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:South Asian Worship & Fellowship\nOn the first Saturday of every month\, Floris UMC opens its doors for a special evening of fellowship and worship designed to bring together families and individuals from India\, Pakistan\, and beyond. This monthly gathering is a unique opportunity to celebrate culture\, community\, and faith in a welcoming and supportive environment. \nEach gathering includes time to connect with others as well as to join together in worship. You’ll have the chance to meet new friends\, share in meaningful conversations\, and strengthen relationships while also experiencing the joy of praising God as a community. Families will find this to be a wonderful setting to introduce children to the richness of cultural traditions while also being part of a caring and diverse church family. Whether you are new to the area\, exploring faith\, or simply seeking a place to belong\, you’ll discover that this is a space where everyone is valued and welcomed. \nThe worship experience is designed to be both uplifting and inclusive\, blending elements of United Methodist tradition with the vibrant spirit of our diverse community. Through prayer\, scripture\, and music\, we lift our hearts to God and celebrate the love of Christ that unites us across cultures and languages. At the same time\, the fellowship component allows us to build lasting connections\, nurture friendships\, and encourage one another in faith. \nThis gathering isn’t just about attending a service or a program—it’s about being part of something larger: a community that reflects the beauty of God’s diverse family. We invite you to bring your family\, invite friends\, and come ready to experience the warmth of connection and the joy of worship. \nJoin us on the first Saturday of each month and be part of this meaningful celebration of faith and community. \nFor more information or if you have questions\, please contact Megan Dietrick.

SUMMARY:Messy Church - Little Lights & Holy Bites
DESCRIPTION:Messy Church – Little Lights & Holy Bites\n\n\nJoin us for a special evening of food\, fellowship\, and fun! At this Messy Church event\, we’ll dive into the meaning behind two important parts of worship: 🕯 Acolytes (our “Little Lights”) – why they carry the light of Christ into worship. 🍞 Holy Communion (our “Holy Bites”) – what it means and why we celebrate it together. After a delicious family-friendly dinner\, we’ll enjoy hands-on activities\, fellowship\, and learning that will help kids and families understand why these elements are central to our worship service. Bring the whole family—everyone is welcome at the table! \nThis evening is designed to be engaging for all ages. Children will have the chance to see the “Little Lights” in action and learn how acolytes help lead our worship while symbolizing the light of Christ in our lives. Through fun\, interactive demonstrations and conversations\, families will explore how even small acts of service and participation can make a meaningful difference in the church community. \nWe’ll also focus on Holy Communion\, or the “Holy Bites\,” providing an approachable way for kids and adults to understand this sacred tradition. Through stories\, discussion\, and hands-on experiences\, participants will discover the spiritual significance behind the bread and cup\, and why sharing this meal is central to our faith. \nBeyond the learning\, this is a time to connect with others in the Floris UMC community. Enjoy a warm\, family-style dinner\, make new friends\, and take part in creative\, faith-centered activities designed to inspire curiosity\, reflection\, and joy. It’s an opportunity to experience worship in a relaxed and welcoming environment\, where families can grow together spiritually and socially. \nDon’t miss this special chance to explore\, learn\, and celebrate together. SUMMARY:The Social Principles
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the Social Principles: Faith in Action\nThe Social Principles of The United Methodist Church represent more than a statement of beliefs — they are where faith meets the realities of the world. They embody “our journey toward living fully into God’s gracious love for the world\,” offering a thoughtful framework for how we live out our discipleship in public life. \nThis special series will be led by Rev. Rob Vaughn\, Ph.D.\, who brings deep expertise and firsthand experience with the Social Principles. From 2016–2024\, Rev. Vaughn served on the General Board of Church & Society during the time the revised Social Principles were created. He helped interpret them not only in the U.S. but also in three annual conferences in the Democratic Republic of Congo in preparation for General Conference 2024. At that conference\, he served as vice-chair of the legislative committee on “The Social Community”\, guiding key discussions and related resolutions. In addition\, Rev. Vaughn serves as adjunct faculty at Wesley Theological Seminary\, teaching in the Doctor of Ministry program. \nDrawing on this rich background\, Rev. Vaughn will help participants explore how the Social Principles inform our church’s stance on pressing public issues and provide a platform for pursuing social justice. Together\, we will reflect on: \n\nHow do the Social Principles shape the witness of our church today?\nIn what ways do they call us to take action as individuals and as a community?\nHow can these guiding statements provide hope and direction in a divided world?\n\nWhether you are new to The United Methodist Church or have been part of the community for years\, this event offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of how our faith connects with daily life and global concerns. \nThe Social Principles are more than words on a page — they are a call to action\, a vision for justice\, and a reminder that faith is always lived out in relationship with the world around us. \nEvent Information \n\nClass 1: Sunday\, October 5 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\nClass 2: Sunday\, October 19 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\nClass 3: Sunday\, November 9 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\n\nRegistration is required. Reserve your spot today to be part of this important conversation with Rev. Vaughn. \nRegister Now >

SUMMARY:F.I.S.H.
DESCRIPTION:F.I.S.H. (Fifth in Service for Him) \nFifth grade is an exciting time—it’s a year filled with growth\, new experiences\, and the beginning of deeper friendships. At Floris UMC\, we know this is also the perfect stage to help students discover the joy of serving others while building a community of their own. That’s why we created F.I.S.H. (Fifth in Service for Him)\, a ministry just for fifth graders. \nThrough F.I.S.H.\, students gather regularly to share in fun\, fellowship\, and meaningful service. Each month offers a new adventure—one that keeps kids excited to come back\, connect with friends\, and grow in their faith. One month might bring the thrill of a scavenger hunt or the laughter of a game night\, while another invites the group to roll up their sleeves for a hands-on service project that makes a difference in our local community. From progressive dinners to festive Christmas parties\, every event is designed to help kids form lasting memories while learning that following Jesus is both joyful and impactful. \nAt its heart\, F.I.S.H. is about connection—connection with peers\, connection with caring adult leaders\, and connection with God. Students will not only enjoy fun activities\, but also discover how their time\, talents\, and energy can serve others in meaningful ways. It’s a safe\, supportive environment where kids can be themselves\, build friendships\, and experience the values of compassion\, kindness\, and service in action. \nWe invite all fifth graders to come and see what F.I.S.H. is all about. Whether your child is new to Floris or has been part of our community for years\, they’ll find a welcoming space where they belong. Together\, we’ll laugh\, serve\, celebrate\, and grow—because following Christ is best done in community. \n👉 Ready to join us? Register today for F.I.S.H. and be part of the fun and service! \nRegister for February F.I.S.H. \nRegister for March F.I.S.H.

SUMMARY:Poinsettia Dedication
DESCRIPTION:Poinsettia Dedications: Celebrate Christmas with a Gift of Beauty and Meaning \nAs we prepare our hearts and our worship spaces for the wonder of Christmas\, you are invited to take part in a cherished tradition that brings both beauty and remembrance to our Christmas Eve services. Poinsettia Dedications are a meaningful way to honor loved ones\, remember those who have passed\, or offer a gift “To the Glory of God” during this sacred season. \nEach dedication is $15 and includes a beautiful poinsettia displayed throughout our Christmas Eve worship. These vibrant plants brighten our sanctuary and represent the love\, gratitude\, and faith of our church family. You can choose to dedicate a poinsettia In Memory of someone dear\, In Honor of a special person or group\, or To the Glory of God. Your dedication becomes part of our collective celebration of hope\, light\, and the birth of Christ. \nYour dedication will be included in our Christmas Eve materials so that your tribute can be shared with the congregation as we gather in worship. Many families find this tradition meaningful year after year because it provides an opportunity to pause\, reflect\, and offer something beautiful in the spirit of Christmas. \nMaking a dedication is simple. Just complete the online form using the link below: \nMake a dedication > \nYou are welcome to dedicate multiple poinsettias if you wish. After Christmas Eve services\, you may take home your poinsettia or leave it to be shared with members of our community as a gesture of care. \nFor more information or assistance with your dedication\, please contact Daniel Cho. Our team is happy to help. \nJoin us in filling our worship space with color\, warmth\, and love this Christmas. Your dedication is more than a plant; it is a symbol of remembrance\, celebration\, and the joy we share in this holy season.

SUMMARY:XRoads Thanksgiving Dinner
DESCRIPTION:XRoads Thanksgiving Dinner\nSunday\, November 23 at 5 p.m. \nJoin the XRoads Students for one of the most heartwarming traditions of the year as they prepare\, cook\, and serve a homemade Thanksgiving dinner for their families and loved ones. This special evening is more than just a meal—it’s a celebration of gratitude\, community\, and faith in action. \nThroughout the fall\, our middle and high school students have been learning not only how to cook but also how to work together\, serve others\, and express appreciation for the people who support them. The annual XRoads Thanksgiving Dinner brings all those lessons to life. Students take the lead in the kitchen\, plan the menu\, set the tables\, and serve a delicious\, traditional feast to their families as a way of saying thank you. \nThe evening will include a time of fellowship\, laughter\, and reflection as we gather around the table to celebrate the season of thankfulness. Families will enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with joy\, teamwork\, and connection—a true reminder of what church community is all about. \nThis event is open to all XRoads families\, and everyone is encouraged to come hungry and ready to be blessed by the hospitality and hard work of our students. \nDon’t miss this wonderful opportunity to support and celebrate our youth as they put their faith into action through service and gratitude. \nFor more information\, contact Pepe Miller at pmiller@florisumc.org. \nView photos from past Thanksgiving dinners here. \nJoin us for an unforgettable evening of food\, faith\, and fellowship as we give thanks together!
