SUMMARY:Homes for All VOICE Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Homes for All VOICE AssemblySunday\, October 19 | 3:30–5:00 PM | Herndon\, VA \nJoin faith leaders\, nonprofits\, business partners\, and elected officials from across the region for the VOICE Homes for All Assembly\, a powerful gathering advocating for solutions to Virginia’s growing housing crisis. \nVirginia is facing a statewide shortage of affordable housing\, with families and neighbors struggling to keep up with rising rents and utility costs. Across the state\, faith institutions collectively own more than 74\,000 acres—nearly twice the size of Richmond. While many faith groups have tried to develop housing\, local rezoning processes are often lengthy\, costly\, and unpredictable\, making it difficult to put this land to work for the community. \nThe VOICE Assembly is part of a movement urging the General Assembly to support state reforms that streamline zoning for faith communities and tax-exempt organizations\, helping unlock land for affordable housing while maintaining environmental protections. \nThis interfaith gathering will include Christian\, Muslim\, Jewish\, Hindu\, and Sikh leaders\, along with nonprofit and business partners\, and elected officials. Both Virginia gubernatorial candidates have been invited to participate. Together\, attendees will call for bold\, bipartisan action to reduce barriers to housing\, strengthen communities\, and support the mission of congregations across the state. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to show support for housing solutions in Virginia. Reserve your spot today and be part of a powerful statewide movement. \nTogether\, we can take meaningful steps toward a Virginia where everyone has a safe\, affordable place to call home. \nWant to do more? We’re also looking ofr volunteers to help with parking and hospitality at the event. If you’re available to lend a hand\, please sign up for a volunteer slot here. Your support helps make this gathering welcoming and successful for all!

SUMMARY:The Social Principles
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the Social Principles: Faith in Action\nThe Social Principles of The United Methodist Church represent more than a statement of beliefs — they are where faith meets the realities of the world. They embody “our journey toward living fully into God’s gracious love for the world\,” offering a thoughtful framework for how we live out our discipleship in public life. \nThis special series will be led by Rev. Rob Vaughn\, Ph.D.\, who brings deep expertise and firsthand experience with the Social Principles. From 2016–2024\, Rev. Vaughn served on the General Board of Church & Society during the time the revised Social Principles were created. He helped interpret them not only in the U.S. but also in three annual conferences in the Democratic Republic of Congo in preparation for General Conference 2024. At that conference\, he served as vice-chair of the legislative committee on “The Social Community”\, guiding key discussions and related resolutions. In addition\, Rev. Vaughn serves as adjunct faculty at Wesley Theological Seminary\, teaching in the Doctor of Ministry program. \nDrawing on this rich background\, Rev. Vaughn will help participants explore how the Social Principles inform our church’s stance on pressing public issues and provide a platform for pursuing social justice. Together\, we will reflect on: \n\nHow do the Social Principles shape the witness of our church today?\nIn what ways do they call us to take action as individuals and as a community?\nHow can these guiding statements provide hope and direction in a divided world?\n\nWhether you are new to The United Methodist Church or have been part of the community for years\, this event offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of how our faith connects with daily life and global concerns. \nThe Social Principles are more than words on a page — they are a call to action\, a vision for justice\, and a reminder that faith is always lived out in relationship with the world around us. \nEvent Information \n\nClass 1: Sunday\, October 5 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\nClass 2: Sunday\, October 19 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\nClass 3: Sunday\, November 9 | 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM\n\nRegistration is required. Reserve your spot today to be part of this important conversation with Rev. Vaughn. \nRegister Now >

DESCRIPTION:F.I.S.H. (Fifth in Service for Him) \nFifth grade is an exciting time—it’s a year filled with growth\, new experiences\, and the beginning of deeper friendships. At Floris UMC\, we know this is also the perfect stage to help students discover the joy of serving others while building a community of their own. That’s why we created F.I.S.H. Each month offers a new adventure—one that keeps kids excited to come back\, connect with friends\, and grow in their faith. One month might bring the thrill of a scavenger hunt or the laughter of a game night\, while another invites the group to roll up their sleeves for a hands-on service project that makes a difference in our local community. From progressive dinners to festive Christmas parties\, every event is designed to help kids form lasting memories while learning that following Jesus is both joyful and impactful. \nAt its heart\, F.I.S.H. is about connection—connection with peers\, connection with caring adult leaders\, and connection with God. Students will not only enjoy fun activities\, but also discover how their time\, talents\, and energy can serve others in meaningful ways. It’s a safe\, supportive environment where kids can be themselves\, build friendships\, and experience the values of compassion\, kindness\, and service in action. \nWe invite all fifth graders to come and see what F.I.S.H. is all about. Whether your child is new to Floris or has been part of our community for years\, they’ll find a welcoming space where they belong. Together\, we’ll laugh\, serve\, celebrate\, and grow—because following Christ is best done in community. \n👉 Ready to join us? SUMMARY:Seven Miracles: Signs of Life in the Gospel of John
DESCRIPTION:Seven Miracles: Signs of Life in the Gospel of John\nFrom a Floris UMC Study Guide to a Published Devotional for All\n \nDuring Lent 2025\, the clergy of Floris United Methodist Church created a special devotional and study guide to help our congregation walk more deeply with Christ through the seven miracles in John’s Gospel. What began as a free resource for our church family quickly became a meaningful journey of renewal for individuals and small groups alike \nNow\, that same resource has been expanded\, professionally published\, and made available to share with others. Seven Miracles: Signs of Life in the Gospel of John is more than just a devotional—it’s a tool for transformation. Each chapter explores one of John’s miracle stories with pastoral reflections\, guided prayers\, and thought-provoking questions that can be used for both personal devotions and group discussions. Built into the book is a leader’s guide\, making it simple for pastors\, small group leaders\, and churches to plan meaningful studies around this Lenten theme. \nWe invite you to order a copy for yourself\, as well as to consider gifting this resource to someone in your life who could use encouragement and spiritual renewal. Better yet\, think beyond our congregation: this book was designed to bless communities everywhere. Share it with a friend in another church or encourage your small group to read through it together. Special discounts are available for bulk orders\, making it easier for other congregations and groups to prepare their own studies. \nJoin us in spreading the message of Christ’s miracles. What began here at Floris is now ready to inspire faith and community far beyond our walls. \nOrder your copy today—or order in bulk for your group or another church. \n7miracles : 10 percent off any order (through October 15)\n\n7miracles15 : 15 percent off any order of 5 or more books (through January 31)\n\n7miracles20 : 20 percent off any order of 10 or more books (through January 31)\nPlace your order now >

SUMMARY:Hiking for the Soul
DESCRIPTION:Hiking for the Soul\nStep away from the busyness of everyday life and experience the peace of God’s creation with Hiking for the Soul\, a new monthly gathering sponsored by Floris UMC. Each hike is designed not only to get us moving outdoors\, but also to nourish our spirits through reflection\, prayer\, and community. \nEach month\, we meet at a local park for a short and accessible hike (about 1.5 miles)\, perfect for beginners or anyone who wants a relaxed outdoor activity. Whether reflecting on the reading or simply enjoying conversation\, Hiking for the Soul builds community while offering spiritual renewal. \nUpcoming hikes: \n\nSunday\, October 12 at 2:00 PM – Banshee Reeks | We’ll gather at the Nature Center parking lot for a scenic fall hike.\nSunday\, November 16 at 2:00 PM – Bull Run Park | We’ll meet at the Atlantis Water Park parking lot to enjoy the trails together.\n\nBring your walking shoes\, a water bottle\, and an open heart. SUMMARY:South Asian Worship & Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:South Asian Worship & Fellowship\nOn the first Saturday of every month\, Floris UMC opens its doors for a special evening of fellowship and worship designed to bring together families and individuals from India\, Pakistan\, and beyond. This monthly gathering is a unique opportunity to celebrate culture\, community\, and faith in a welcoming and supportive environment. \nEach gathering includes time to connect with others as well as to join together in worship. You’ll have the chance to meet new friends\, share in meaningful conversations\, and strengthen relationships while also experiencing the joy of praising God as a community. Families will find this to be a wonderful setting to introduce children to the richness of cultural traditions while also being part of a caring and diverse church family. Whether you are new to the area\, exploring faith\, or simply seeking a place to belong\, you’ll discover that this is a space where everyone is valued and welcomed. \nThe worship experience is designed to be both uplifting and inclusive\, blending elements of United Methodist tradition with the vibrant spirit of our diverse community. Through prayer\, scripture\, and music\, we lift our hearts to God and celebrate the love of Christ that unites us across cultures and languages. At the same time\, the fellowship component allows us to build lasting connections\, nurture friendships\, and encourage one another in faith. \nThis gathering isn’t just about attending a service or a program—it’s about being part of something larger: a community that reflects the beauty of God’s diverse family. We invite you to bring your family\, invite friends\, and come ready to experience the warmth of connection and the joy of worship. \nJoin us on the first Saturday of each month and be part of this meaningful celebration of faith and community. \nFor more information or if you have questions\, please contact Megan Dietrick.

SUMMARY:Coffee Hours: Ask an *Almost* Pastor
DESCRIPTION:Coffee Hours: Ask an *Almost* Pastor\nHave you ever had a question about faith\, life\, or the Bible and wished you had a safe space to ask it? Maybe you’ve wondered about how to pray\, what a particular scripture means\, or how to navigate life’s challenges through the lens of faith. Or maybe you just need a place to pause at the end of the week with a good cup of coffee and a little community. \nThat’s exactly what “Almost Rev. Meg” Coffee Conversations is all about. Each Friday afternoon from 1–4 p.m.\, (October 3\, 2025 at 2-4 p.m.) join Almost Rev. Meg at Meanwhile Coffee in Woodland Crossing (2309 Woodland Crossing Dr\, Herndon\, VA) for an open\, welcoming time of conversation and connection. \nBring your toughest questions—Meg can promise you plenty of almost-answers! You don’t need to prepare anything in advance; just come as you are. Whether your questions are about the Bible\, daily life\, or where faith intersects with culture\, this is a space to ask honestly\, wonder together\, and share perspectives without pressure. \nNot in the mood for questions? That’s okay too! This gathering is also a casual co-working opportunity. Bring your laptop\, grab a latte\, and settle in alongside other Floris folks. You’ll find a supportive\, relaxed environment where you can catch up on work\, enjoy good company\, or simply take a breather. \nThis weekly meetup is about more than coffee—it’s about building community. It’s about creating room for curiosity\, for laughter\, and for being together outside of Sunday morning. Whether you come once or make it a regular Friday ritual\, you’ll find a warm welcome and a fresh perspective. \nSo\, mark your calendar\, bring your questions (or your to-do list)\, and join us.
