DESCRIPTION:Artist Reception: Through the Lens: Love\, Serve\, Lead by Alexis Doty\nJoin us for a special Artist Reception honoring Alexis Doty\, Floris UMC’s photographer and videographer\, whose work has helped shape how our community’s story is seen and remembered. \nAlexis is a DMV native\, born and raised in Maryland\, with a lifelong passion for visual storytelling. She began working with video production in high school and has continued to grow that passion into meaningful\, purpose-driven work. Today\, she is the founder of two Herndon-based production companies\, F22 Video Solutions and Memory Lane Productions\, where she helps individuals and families preserve their stories and legacies in their own words. \nAt Floris UMC\, Alexis brings a deeply personal and thoughtful approach to photography and videography. Her work focuses on authenticity over perfection\, capturing moments that often go unnoticed\, including acts of service\, quiet leadership\, shared joy\, and genuine connection. Through her lens\, we see how faith is lived out through love in action. \nAlexis’s creativity is deeply connected to community. SUMMARY:F.I.S.H.
DESCRIPTION:F.I.S.H. (Fifth in Service for Him) \nFifth grade is an exciting time—it’s a year filled with growth\, new experiences\, and the beginning of deeper friendships. At Floris UMC\, we know this is also the perfect stage to help students discover the joy of serving others while building a community of their own. That’s why we created F.I.S.H. (Fifth in Service for Him)\, a ministry just for fifth graders. \nThrough F.I.S.H.\, students gather regularly to share in fun\, fellowship\, and meaningful service. Each month offers a new adventure—one that keeps kids excited to come back\, connect with friends\, and grow in their faith. One month might bring the thrill of a scavenger hunt or the laughter of a game night\, while another invites the group to roll up their sleeves for a hands-on service project that makes a difference in our local community. From progressive dinners to festive Christmas parties\, every event is designed to help kids form lasting memories while learning that following Jesus is both joyful and impactful. \nAt its heart\, F.I.S.H. is about connection—connection with peers\, connection with caring adult leaders\, and connection with God. Students will not only enjoy fun activities\, but also discover how their time\, talents\, and energy can serve others in meaningful ways. It’s a safe\, supportive environment where kids can be themselves\, build friendships\, and experience the values of compassion\, kindness\, and service in action. \nWe invite all fifth graders to come and see what F.I.S.H. is all about. Whether your child is new to Floris or has been part of our community for years\, they’ll find a welcoming space where they belong. Together\, we’ll laugh\, serve\, celebrate\, and grow—because following Christ is best done in community. \n👉 Ready to join us? Register today for F.I.S.H. and be part of the fun and service! \nRegister for February F.I.S.H. \nRegister for March F.I.S.H.

SUMMARY:South Asian Worship & Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:South Asian Worship & Fellowship\nOn the first Saturday of every month\, Floris UMC opens its doors for a special evening of fellowship and worship designed to bring together families and individuals from India\, Pakistan\, and beyond. This monthly gathering is a unique opportunity to celebrate culture\, community\, and faith in a welcoming and supportive environment. \nEach gathering includes time to connect with others as well as to join together in worship. You’ll have the chance to meet new friends\, share in meaningful conversations\, and strengthen relationships while also experiencing the joy of praising God as a community. Families will find this to be a wonderful setting to introduce children to the richness of cultural traditions while also being part of a caring and diverse church family. Whether you are new to the area\, exploring faith\, or simply seeking a place to belong\, you’ll discover that this is a space where everyone is valued and welcomed. \nThe worship experience is designed to be both uplifting and inclusive\, blending elements of United Methodist tradition with the vibrant spirit of our diverse community. Through prayer\, scripture\, and music\, we lift our hearts to God and celebrate the love of Christ that unites us across cultures and languages. At the same time\, the fellowship component allows us to build lasting connections\, nurture friendships\, and encourage one another in faith. \nThis gathering isn’t just about attending a service or a program—it’s about being part of something larger: a community that reflects the beauty of God’s diverse family. We invite you to bring your family\, invite friends\, and come ready to experience the warmth of connection and the joy of worship. \nJoin us on the first Saturday of each month and be part of this meaningful celebration of faith and community. \nFor more information or if you have questions\, please contact Megan Dietrick.

SUMMARY:Pride Alliance Meetings
DESCRIPTION:Pride Alliance at Floris UMC\nThe Pride Alliance at Floris UMC is a vibrant\, welcoming community dedicated to fostering an inclusive and affirming environments for all individuals—regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that every person is a beloved child of God\, deserving of respect\, love\, and belonging. \nOur mission is to create meaningful change both within our church and across the broader United Methodist denomination. We work closely with the Floris UMC Church Council to offer thoughtful recommendations and to help carry out approved actions that reflect our core values of love\, justice\, and equality. From advocating for inclusive language and policies to supporting initiatives that remove discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals\, our efforts are rooted in faith and guided by the desire to see every person welcomed fully into the life of the church. \nThe Pride Alliance also serves as a restoration ministry\, intentionally engaging in conversations and actions that address inequities and challenge barriers faced by LGBTQ+ members in the church. Our work is both practical and spiritual: we advocate for systemic change while nurturing a safe\, supportive space for individuals to grow in their faith. \nMost importantly\, the Pride Alliance is a community of support\, love\, and healing. Whether you are exploring your faith\, seeking a space where you can be fully yourself\, or looking to connect with others committed to equality\, we are here to walk alongside you. \nJoin us and be part of a community committed to love\, equity\, and meaningful transformation. \nLearn More >

SUMMARY:Spiritual Recovery Community
DESCRIPTION:Spiritual Recovery Community: Finding Healing After Church Hurt\nHave you walked away from a faith community or wrestled with the pain of high-control or fear-based religion? You are not alone—and your story matters. Many people carry wounds from spiritual environments that were meant to offer hope but instead left scars of judgment\, fear\, or exclusion. This event is designed with you in mind: a safe\, welcoming space to explore healthier ways of engaging with faith. \nOur time together will focus on topics specific to church-hurt\, spiritual trauma\, and the challenges of deconstructing harmful religious experiences. This isn’t about quick fixes or forcing belief—it’s about holding space for honesty\, curiosity\, and growth. Together\, we’ll create a community where listening\, respect\, and compassion guide our conversations. \nIf you’ve ever felt silenced\, dismissed\, or misunderstood in your faith journey\, this gathering offers a chance to breathe\, reflect\, and rediscover hope in a healthier\, more life-giving form of spirituality. \nCome as you are.
