SUMMARY:Advent Giving Christmas Trees
DESCRIPTION:Advent Giving Christmas Trees: Bless Our Community This Season\nShare the love of Christ this Christmas through a simple act of generosity! \nThe Christmas season is a time for joy\, hope\, and giving. It’s also an opportunity to remind our neighbors that they are loved\, valued\, and never forgotten. This year\, you can help make Christmas a little brighter for individuals and families in our local community through our Advent Giving Christmas Tree! \nFrom November 8 through December 6\, 2026\, we invite you to visit the Giving Tree in the church building and choose an ornament (or two!) featuring a gift request from someone in need. Each ornament represents a real person in our community and an opportunity to share kindness in a meaningful\, tangible way. \nWhether you choose one gift or several\, your generosity can make a difference. A requested item may seem like a small gesture\, but for the person receiving it\, it can bring comfort\, encouragement\, and a powerful reminder that someone cares. By participating\, you’re helping ensure that more of our neighbors experience the warmth and joy of the Christmas season. \nHow to Participate\nGetting involved is easy! \n\nVisit the Giving Tree. Stop by the church building beginning November 8 and select an ornament with a gift request.\nPurchase the requested gift. Choose the item listed on your ornament and help make someone’s Christmas brighter.\nReturn your unwrapped gift. Bring your gift back to the church no later than December 6\, 2026. Please leave all gifts unwrapped so they can be properly organized and distributed.\n\nEvery gift is an opportunity to share hope\, spread joy\, and show love to someone who may need a little extra support this season. \nBe a Blessing This Christmas\nAs we journey through Advent and prepare our hearts for Christmas\, let’s remember that giving is one of the ways we put our faith into action. Through the Advent Giving Christmas Tree\, we can come together as a church family to care for our neighbors and reflect the love of Christ beyond the walls of our church. \nYou don’t have to do something extraordinary to make a difference. Sometimes\, a single gift is enough to remind someone that they matter. \nLet’s bless our community this season\, one gift at a time! \nFor more information about the Advent Giving Christmas Tree\, contact Debbie Cali.

SUMMARY:Falls Grounds and Watershed Clean-up
DESCRIPTION:Falls Grounds and Watershed Clean-up\n\nCare for God’s Creation Through Action\nOur Environmental Justice and Stewardship Team invites you to take part in a meaningful opportunity to care for God’s creation right here in our own community. We will gather to clean the watershed area behind our church\, a protected natural space that plays an important role in our local ecosystem. \nWhy This Work Matters\nOver time\, rain and wind naturally carry litter and debris into nearby creekbeds and wetlands. While much of it may go unnoticed\, this buildup can have a lasting impact on the health of the land and waterways. By coming together to clean this area\, we are taking an active step toward protecting and preserving a space God has entrusted to us. \nProtecting Local Waterways\nThis watershed is part of a much larger system of waterways. What enters these creekbeds can eventually make its way into the Potomac River and even the Chesapeake Bay. By removing litter at the source\, we can help reduce pollution downstream and contribute to the long-term health of these vital waters. \nWho Can Participate\nThis event is open to everyone in the community\, and all ages are welcome. Whether you are passionate about environmental stewardship\, looking for a hands-on way to serve\, or simply want to spend time outdoors making a difference\, this is a great opportunity to get involved. No prior experience is needed\, just a willingness to help care for creation. \nRegister Now >\nWhat to Expect\nParticipants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Gloves and necessary cleanup supplies will be provided. We also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated as we work together. \nJoin Us in Caring for Creation\nMore than just a cleanup\, this is a chance to live out our shared responsibility to love and care for the world around us. As we serve together\, we are reminded that small acts of stewardship can have a lasting impact on our environment and our community. \nJoin us as we work together to restore and protect this beautiful watershed area for future generations. Every helping hand makes a difference!

SUMMARY:Grief to Peace
DESCRIPTION:Grief to Peace\nGrief can change the way we see the world. When you’re grieving the loss of someone you love\, you may find yourself carrying emotions\, questions\, and experiences that are difficult to navigate alone. Grief to Peace is a six-week support group at Floris designed to provide a caring space for those walking through grief and seeking hope\, connection\, and peace. \nBeginning October 14\, this weekly group will bring people together to share\, listen\, reflect\, and explore faith in the midst of loss. Whether your grief is recent or you’ve been carrying it for some time\, you are welcome. \nA Place to Grieve Together\nGrief doesn’t follow a predictable timeline\, and there is no single right way to experience it. Grief to Peace offers an opportunity to connect with others who understand the challenges of losing someone important. \nEach gathering incorporates: \n\nScripture study to explore faith and hope in the midst of grief\nWhole-group discussion and opportunities to listen and connect\nPersonal sharing for those who feel comfortable participating\nPrayer and space for reflection\n\nYou are never required to share more than you’re comfortable sharing. Sometimes simply being in a room with others who understand can be meaningful. \nFinding Hope in the Journey\nGrief can feel isolating\, but you don’t have to walk through it alone. Together\, we’ll create space for honest conversations about loss while exploring the ways faith can offer comfort\, strength\, and hope. \nThis group isn’t about rushing through grief or finding quick answers. It’s about making room for the experience of loss while being supported by a caring community. \nOver six weeks\, participants will have the opportunity to build connections\, reflect on their experiences\, and explore what it means to move toward peace while continuing to honor the people and relationships they have lost. \nJoin Us This Fall\nGrief to Peace meets Wednesdays from 7–8:30 p.m.\, October 21 through November 18\, 2026\, at Floris UMC. \nThe group is limited to a small number of participants to help create an environment where meaningful connection and conversation can take place. Registration is required. \nIf you or someone you know is grieving the loss of a loved one\, we invite you to take this step toward connection and support. \nYou don’t have to have everything figured out. You simply have to show up. \nCome as you are. Grieve together. Find connection. Explore hope. Move toward peace. \nRegister for Grief to Peace\nRegistration is open through October 21\, 2026. There is no cost to participate. \nRegister Here >

SUMMARY:Lamb Center Casseroles
DESCRIPTION:Serving Lamb Center: Student Casserole Ministry\nSmall acts of service can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors. \nEach month\, our students come together to prepare casseroles for the Lamb Center\, a daytime drop-in shelter in Fairfax County that serves individuals experiencing homelessness and those in need. Through this hands-on service opportunity\, students put their faith into action by helping provide nourishing meals to people in our wider community. \nSharing God’s Love Through Service\nAt the heart of this ministry is a simple but powerful idea: caring for others begins with recognizing their needs and finding meaningful ways to help. Preparing casseroles may seem like a small act\, but each meal represents time\, effort\, and a willingness to serve someone beyond our immediate circles. \nBy preparing food for the Lamb Center\, our students help support an organization that offers essential services and a welcoming place for people facing difficult circumstances. Their contributions are one way our church community can extend care and compassion to our neighbors. \nThis monthly tradition also gives students an opportunity to see how faith can shape everyday actions. Service is not always about grand gestures or solving every challenge at once. Sometimes\, it means working together\, preparing a meal\, and offering something practical to someone who needs it. \nGrowing in Faith Through Giving\nServing others is an important part of growing in faith. When students participate in this ministry\, they learn the value of generosity\, teamwork\, and compassion. They discover that even simple tasks can have a purpose when they are done with care and a desire to help others. \nPreparing casseroles together creates space for students to build connections\, work toward a shared goal\, and reflect on what it means to love their neighbors. These experiences can help nurture a lifelong commitment to serving others and making a positive difference in the community. \nSupporting the Lamb Center\nThe Lamb Center provides support to individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. Through this monthly casserole ministry\, our students help contribute meals for those who access the center’s services. \nWe are grateful for every student who gives their time and energy to this effort. Their willingness to serve reminds us that we all have something to offer\, and that working together allows small acts of kindness to reach beyond our church walls. \nTogether\, we can nourish our neighbors\, grow in faith\, and share God’s love one casserole at a time.

SUMMARY:All Saints Sunday Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:All Saints Sunday Remembrance\nHonoring the people who have shaped our lives and faith stories. \nJoin us on Sunday\, November 1\, for All Saints Sunday Remembrance\, a special opportunity to remember and give thanks for all of those who have gone before us and have been a part of our life and faith stories. \nThroughout our lives\, we encounter people whose love\, wisdom\, faith\, and kindness leave a lasting impression on us. They may be family members\, dear friends\, mentors\, or members of our church community who helped shape who we are and how we walk in faith. Although they may no longer be physically present with us\, their influence continues to live on in the memories we cherish\, the lessons they taught us\, and the faith they helped nurture. \nAll Saints Sunday invites us to pause and reflect on the lives of these special people we hold dear. It is a time to celebrate their lasting impact\, express gratitude for the time we shared with them\, and recognize the many ways they remain a meaningful part of our stories. \nInclude Your Saints in Our Remembrance\nOn Sunday\, November 1\, we invite you to bring a photograph of someone you’d like to honor to be included in our memorial remembrance display. Together\, we will create a meaningful collection that celebrates the lives\, memories\, and legacies of those who have touched our hearts. \nDon’t have a photograph? You can still participate! You will also have an opportunity to write down the name of someone you’d like to remember or draw a picture of them. Whether you bring a cherished photograph\, write a name\, or create a drawing\, your contribution is a meaningful way to honor someone who has been part of your life and faith journey. \nThis is an opportunity to include your own “saints” in our All Saints Remembrance. There is no single way to remember someone\, and every story\, relationship\, and expression of love is welcome. \nRemembering Together\nAs we gather in remembrance\, may we find comfort in shared memories\, gratitude in the lives that have shaped us\, and encouragement in the faith that connects us across generations. We invite you to take part in this special observance as we honor those who have gone before us and celebrate the lasting place they hold in our hearts. \nJoin us November 1. Bring a photo\, write a name\, or draw a picture\, and help us honor the saints who are part of our life and faith stories.

SUMMARY:Hiking for the Soul
DESCRIPTION:Hiking for the Soul\nStep away from the busyness of everyday life and experience the peace of God’s creation with Hiking for the Soul\, a new monthly gathering sponsored by Floris UMC. Each hike is designed not only to get us moving outdoors\, but also to nourish our spirits through reflection\, prayer\, and community. \nEach month\, we meet at a local park for a short and accessible hike (about 1.5 miles)\, perfect for beginners or anyone who wants a relaxed outdoor activity. But Hiking for the Soul is more than exercise. It is a space to slow down\, notice the beauty around us\, and connect with God in meaningful ways. \nWe begin with a short reading or meditation to open our hearts to God’s presence in nature. Midway through the hike\, we pause for a simple grounding exercise that helps us center ourselves and fully embrace the moment. \nAfter the trail\, there is time for fellowship and sharing. Whether reflecting on the reading or simply enjoying conversation\, Hiking for the Soul builds community while offering spiritual renewal. \nUpcoming hikes: \n\nSaturday\, October 25 at 2:00 PM – Manassas Stone Bridge Trail | 1.3 mile hike\nSaturday\, November 8 at 2:00 PM – Burke Lake Park | 1.8 mile hike\n\nBring your walking shoes\, a water bottle\, and an open heart. Join us for Hiking for the Soul and discover how nature can refresh your spirit. \nRegister today to save your spot for October’s Hike! \nRegister today to save your spot for November’s Hike!
