SUMMARY:Yoon Nam - Prayer Garden
DESCRIPTION:Experience Art that Connects Faith\, Creativity\, and Community with Yoon Nam’s Prayer Garden Exhibit\nThe Floris Art Gallery invites you to experience this month’s featured collection – Yoon Nam’s Prayer Garden – a heartfelt exploration of faith and creativity born out of unexpected beginnings. \nDuring the pandemic\, many of us searched for new ways to find peace and purpose in uncertain times. For this month’s artist\, that journey began with simple YouTube tutorials and a paintbrush. What started as a pastime soon transformed into a spiritual practice—a way of slowing down\, listening\, and becoming more aware of God’s presence in the quiet moments of each day. \nThough not formally trained\, the artist discovered that painting could be more than just creating images on canvas. Each brushstroke became both a prayer and a reflection\, offering gratitude for the gift of life. Through this practice\, a deeper way of seeing the world emerged—one that celebrates simplicity\, beauty\, and stillness. \nThe collection features scenes of nature—trees reaching toward the sky\, flowers bursting with color\, waterscapes reflecting peace\, and skies alive with light. These works are not simply depictions of creation but invitations to experience it anew. They remind us that God’s beauty is always present—in the ordinary\, in the quiet\, and in the wonder we often overlook. \nWhen you visit the Floris Art Gallery this month\, you’ll encounter more than artwork on the walls. You’ll step into a space where faith and creativity meet\, where each piece is an offering of hope\, gratitude\, and awe. Whether you are an art enthusiast\, a seeker of spiritual reflection\, or simply someone who longs for a moment of stillness\, this exhibition offers a place to pause\, breathe\, and be renewed. \nLearn more about this month’s exhibition on our Art Gallery page. \nThe Floris Art Gallery also welcomes artists in our community to share their gifts. If you are interested in submitting your own work for consideration\, we invite you to apply to exhibit with us. \nCome and experience art that draws you closer to God\, to creation\, and to community.

SUMMARY:The Lord's Prayer Study
DESCRIPTION:The Lord’s Prayer Study\nhttps://www.florisumc.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Lords-Prayer-Video-w-CC_1.mp4\n  \nMost Christians know the Lord’s Prayer by heart. We pray it often\, at different times and in different settings. We remember it as the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. But do we really understand and appreciate the meaning and power of its words\, what we ask of God each time we pray it? \nTogether as a church\, join in this journey as we learn about The Lord’s Prayer in a three-week sermon series\, “Praying the Prayer of Jesus in Today’s World” (September 14\, 21 and 28). Groups will discuss the sermon each week while also reading Adam Hamilton’s book The Lord’s Prayer. \nThe Lord’s Prayer: The Meaning and Power of the Prayer Jesus Taught by Adam Hamilton. \nFind a group here and signup. \nWeekly Sermon

SUMMARY:Bread Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Bread Sunday: Bake\, Share\, and Inspire\nBread is more than food—it’s a universal symbol of community\, hospitality\, and nourishment. That’s why we’re celebrating Bread Sunday as part of the Floris Feeds the World campaign—and we want you to be part of it! \nHere’s how it works: bake your own bread at home. It could be your favorite family recipe\, a new bread you’ve always wanted to try\, or a loaf inspired by a culture around the world. Then\, bring your bread to church on Bread Sunday to share with others after worship. Together we’ll enjoy breads from many traditions\, experiencing the beauty of hospitality and community around the table. \nIf you’re part of our online community\, you can still join in! Take a photo of your creation and post it on social media. Be sure to tag Floris UMC and use our campaign hashtag #FlorisFeeds40K so your bread can inspire others. \nBread connects us to our global neighbors. Around the world\, families gather with many different kinds of bread—baguettes\, tortillas\, injera\, naan\, flatbreads—and each carries its own story. Just as bread nourishes the body\, every meal packaged through Rise Against Hunger nourishes a child\, a family\, or a community in need. \nBy participating in Bread Sunday\, you’re not just baking—you’re spreading awareness\, sharing joy\, and helping to feed thousands. And don’t forget to check back here to see our community bread gallery\, featuring photos from across the congregation. It will be a celebration of creativity\, generosity\, and the spirit of coming together for a greater purpose. \nSo\, preheat the oven\, gather your loved ones\, and join us for Bread Sunday. Together\, let’s turn something as simple as bread into a movement of hope and nourishment for the world. \nNo Registration Needed!

SUMMARY:Hiking for the Soul
DESCRIPTION:Hiking for the Soul\nStep away from the busyness of everyday life and experience the peace of God’s creation with Hiking for the Soul\, a new monthly gathering sponsored by Floris UMC. Whether reflecting on the reading or simply enjoying conversation\, Hiking for the Soul builds community while offering spiritual renewal. \nUpcoming hikes: \n\nSunday\, October 12 at 2:00 PM – Banshee Reeks | We’ll gather at the Nature Center parking lot for a scenic fall hike.\nSunday\, November 16 at 2:00 PM – Bull Run Park | We’ll meet at the Atlantis Water Park parking lot to enjoy the trails together.\n\nBring your walking shoes\, a water bottle\, and an open heart. SUMMARY:Spiritual Recovery Community
DESCRIPTION:Spiritual Recovery Community: Finding Healing After Church Hurt\nHave you walked away from a faith community or wrestled with the pain of high-control or fear-based religion? You are not alone—and your story matters. Many people carry wounds from spiritual environments that were meant to offer hope but instead left scars of judgment\, fear\, or exclusion. This event is designed with you in mind: a safe\, welcoming space to explore healthier ways of engaging with faith. \nOur time together will focus on topics specific to church-hurt\, spiritual trauma\, and the challenges of deconstructing harmful religious experiences. Whether you’re still processing\, searching for new meaning\, or simply longing to be heard\, this is a place where your journey is honored without pressure or judgment. \nWe’ll strive for balance: combining thoughtful\, intellectual conversation about faith and spirituality with opportunities for personal and communal healing. This isn’t about quick fixes or forcing belief—it’s about holding space for honesty\, curiosity\, and growth. Together\, we’ll create a community where listening\, respect\, and compassion guide our conversations. \nIf you’ve ever felt silenced\, dismissed\, or misunderstood in your faith journey\, this gathering offers a chance to breathe\, reflect\, and rediscover hope in a healthier\, more life-giving form of spirituality. \nCome as you are.
