Are you ready for Thanksgiving? I am not quite ready. However, as I shared with you last time, I have been enjoying counting my blessings and giving thanks each day. I give thanks especially about our music ministry at Floris UMC. There are many volunteers — seen and unseenwho diligently come for rehearsals to teach children music, to sing, to play and much more. I am deeply grateful to all of them, and their families, for their support.
This year’s Christmas Cantata will be on December 16 at the 8:00 AM service (choir only), and 9:15 AM and 11:00 AM services (choir and instruments). The choir has been practicing intensively and I can’t wait to share this with you all. This year we have many student instrumental players joining us to play at the Cantata. I am very excited to praise God along with them. Please mark your calendars to come and celebrate Jesus’ birth, and have an opportunity to experience meeting Him personally through the musical offerings. We have been praying that many of those around us would have the opportunity to meet Jesus personally. Let’s invite our neighbors, friends, and families to Floris this Sunday and throughout the season.
We will celebrate Thanksgiving at this week ‘s worship services. We will sing hymns of thanksgiving, and have a moment to think about giving thanks to God through Psalm 19. The Sanctuary Choir and brass players will praise, “It is Good to Give Thanks to the Lord” as an anthem at the 11:00 AM service. The Floris Strings will play, “Fairest Lord, Jesus” as an offertory at that service. At 8:00 AM I will sing a song, “Dank sei Die, Herr (Thanks to Thee)” by Handel in German as an offertory. This musical form of giving thanks can be as beautiful as a carefully written thank you note to someone who has been kind to us. We choose beautiful music to present to God to tell Him how much we are grateful for His endless love, amazing grace, and endless blessings. I pray that we have a moment to bring our thanks to God during this Sunday’s worship services.
Here are the lyrics to, “It is Good to Give Thanks to the Lord.”
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name. O most High, O most High.
It is good to give thanks to the Lord.
To declare Your steadfast love in the morning. And Your faithfulness by night, O Most high, for You, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the work of Your hands , I sing for joy!
