It has been a beautiful week. I hope everyone has enjoyed the weather and settled into the second week of school in Fairfax County. I have enjoyed the cool breeze in the early morning and the clear sky at night with bright stars and the moon.

This week in our traditional music ministry we started rehearsals and I have had a great time with both the adult choir retreat and the children’s choir open house. We have four new choir members, and more than 40 children signed up for the children’s choir. I was very excited to have them and look forward to watching them grow in faith through their musical talents. We still need many adults who are interested in helping them out. Please contact me if you love children and if you could volunteer to help all these children learn more about music!

Our Viva Voce vocal ensemble is still open to students in 6th through 12th grades. They meet on Sunday at 4:00 PM for an hour of rehearsal. Please consider joining this group to praise God with music. Bring a simple song to sing at the next meeting for a brief audition.

We are now in the third week of the sermon series, “Stung by the Tongue.” I have been challenged in a number of ways to rephrase my words, and change my response in immediate situations– especially while I am driving! I have more deeply realized how sinful I am without God’s grace and mercy. So, I have carefully chosen a song for this Sunday’s worship services. Both choirs will lift up prayers through music. At 8:00 AM the Sonrise Singers will sing, “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” based on the St. Francis prayer. The Sanctuary Choir will sing, “A Triune Prayer” as an anthem at 11:00 AM. We will plead with musical prayers for God’s help on renewing our tongues and eliminating acts that sting others. I pray that we all kneel down our hearts to God with the musical prayers.

Here are the lyrics of these two songs.

Make Me a Channel of Your Peace

Make me a channel of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord. And where there is doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of Your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy.

O Master, grant that I may never seek, so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of Your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned. In giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re both to eternal life.

A Triune Prayer

Blessed Father, hear our cry. Cast out sin, but draw us nigh.

Not for merit we have none; for Your mercy, for Your son.

Blessed Jesus, make our plea. In Your name to God we flee, through Your blood we seek His face, claim His grace.

Blessed Spirit meet our need; in our silence intercede. Translate groans we cannot speak; heal the broken, help the weak.

Keep our thoughts which run astray. Curb our doubts, increase our faith, Triune God. Please grant our prayer as Your glory we declare. May Your promised kingdom come; may Your will on earth be done.

Blessed Father, Blessed Jesus, Blessed Spirit, hear our prayer.
