SUMMARY:Western North Carolina Mission Trip
DESCRIPTION:Western North Carolina Mission Trip \nFor over two decades\, Floris United Methodist Church has been answering the call to serve communities impacted by natural disasters. From hurricanes and flooding to tornadoes\, our mission teams have brought hope and help to areas across the country. Now\, we invite you to be part of our next journey—our Western North Carolina Mission Trip. \nFloris UMC has sent more than 60 teams to disaster-stricken areas in states like Mississippi\, Florida\, South Carolina\, North Carolina\, Kentucky\, New Jersey\, and New York. Over 600 volunteers have rolled up their sleeves\, built homes\, cleared debris\, and most importantly\, offered compassion to those in need. This work continues as long as there are communities in need of recovery. \nOur next UMVIM Team to Western North Carolina is March 22–27. Would you be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ for the thousands of folks displaced by the remnants of Hurricane Helene? Whether you are skilled in construction or have little or no experience\, your willingness to help will make a great difference. \nAll missioners must be 18+ or 16–18 if accompanied by a parent or designated chaperone\, and there’s no upper age limit—just bring your heart and hands ready to serve! From teens to retirees\, our teams are made up of people who simply want to make a tangible impact in the lives of others. \nJoin us as we continue this important work. Be the hands and feet of Christ in North Carolina. Come ready to work\, to serve\, and to grow in faith and fellowship. \nSign up or ask questions: Tim Wells\, cyacard@comcast.net\, 703-517-0183 \nREGISTER NOW!Dates: March 22–27\, 2026

SUMMARY:Homes for All VOICE Assembly
DESCRIPTION:Homes for All VOICE AssemblySunday\, October 19 | 3:30–5:00 PM | Herndon\, VA \nJoin faith leaders\, nonprofits\, business partners\, and elected officials from across the region for the VOICE Homes for All Assembly\, a powerful gathering advocating for solutions to Virginia’s growing housing crisis. \nVirginia is facing a statewide shortage of affordable housing\, with families and neighbors struggling to keep up with rising rents and utility costs. Across the state\, faith institutions collectively own more than 74\,000 acres—nearly twice the size of Richmond. While many faith groups have tried to develop housing\, local rezoning processes are often lengthy\, costly\, and unpredictable\, making it difficult to put this land to work for the community. \nThe VOICE Assembly is part of a movement urging the General Assembly to support state reforms that streamline zoning for faith communities and tax-exempt organizations\, helping unlock land for affordable housing while maintaining environmental protections. \nThis interfaith gathering will include Christian\, Muslim\, Jewish\, Hindu\, and Sikh leaders\, along with nonprofit and business partners\, and elected officials. Both Virginia gubernatorial candidates have been invited to participate. Together\, attendees will call for bold\, bipartisan action to reduce barriers to housing\, strengthen communities\, and support the mission of congregations across the state. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to show support for housing solutions in Virginia. Reserve your spot today and be part of a powerful statewide movement. \nTogether\, we can take meaningful steps toward a Virginia where everyone has a safe\, affordable place to call home. \nWant to do more? We’re also looking ofr volunteers to help with parking and hospitality at the event. If you’re available to lend a hand\, please sign up for a volunteer slot here. Your support helps make this gathering welcoming and successful for all!

SUMMARY:Bread Sunday
DESCRIPTION:Bread Sunday: Bake\, Share\, and Inspire\nBread is more than food—it’s a universal symbol of community\, hospitality\, and nourishment. That’s why we’re celebrating Bread Sunday as part of the Floris Feeds the World campaign—and we want you to be part of it! \nHere’s how it works: bake your own bread at home. It could be your favorite family recipe\, a new bread you’ve always wanted to try\, or a loaf inspired by a culture around the world. Then\, bring your bread to church on Bread Sunday to share with others after worship. Together we’ll enjoy breads from many traditions\, experiencing the beauty of hospitality and community around the table. \nIf you’re part of our online community\, you can still join in! Take a photo of your creation and post it on social media. Be sure to tag Floris UMC and use our campaign hashtag #FlorisFeeds40K so your bread can inspire others. \nBread connects us to our global neighbors. Around the world\, families gather with many different kinds of bread—baguettes\, tortillas\, injera\, naan\, flatbreads—and each carries its own story. Just as bread nourishes the body\, every meal packaged through Rise Against Hunger nourishes a child\, a family\, or a community in need. \nBy participating in Bread Sunday\, you’re not just baking—you’re spreading awareness\, sharing joy\, and helping to feed thousands. And don’t forget to check back here to see our community bread gallery\, featuring photos from across the congregation. It will be a celebration of creativity\, generosity\, and the spirit of coming together for a greater purpose. \nSo\, preheat the oven\, gather your loved ones\, and join us for Bread Sunday. Together\, let’s turn something as simple as bread into a movement of hope and nourishment for the world. \nNo Registration Needed!

SUMMARY:Serve Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:Serve Spotlight – Discover Your Joy in Serving\nOn Sunday\, August 24\, we invite you to take the next step in living out our church’s vision to Serve Joyfully. We’ll be hosting a Serve Spotlight just outside the Sanctuary after the 9am and 11am services. Join this focused and meaningful opportunity to connect with ministries that need your gifts and talents. \nYou’ll find three ministry tables\, each representing a unique way to make a difference in our church and community. Whether you have a heart for hospitality\, a talent for organizing\, or simply want to meet people and see where you might get involved\, this is your chance to explore where God may be calling you. \nServing isn’t just about filling a need—it’s about discovering joy. As our sermon that morning will remind us\, serving is one of the most powerful ways we can live out our faith\, grow in community\, and share God’s love in tangible ways. Even small acts of service can have a big impact\, both for those we serve and for our own spiritual growth. \nHere’s how you can participate: \n\nStop by the tables after worship on August 24.\nChat with ministry leaders and volunteers.\nAsk questions\, gather information\, and see where your skills might fit.\nTake the first step toward a joyful serving experience.\n\nIt’s a casual\, no-pressure environment—just a chance to explore\, be inspired\, and see how you might plug in. \nMark your calendar now! Don’t miss this simple but powerful opportunity to find your place in serving joyfully. \nEvent Details:\nDate: Sunday\, August 24\nTime: 10am & 12pm\nLocation: Outside the Sanctuary
