Afghan Evacuee Support

Floris UMC/Restoration wants to welcome and support Afghan evacuees who have arrived in Virginia. The situation is evolving, but we now have two ways to support individuals and families:

  • Financial contributions to trusted community organizations
  • Donations to organizations working with those at the Dulles Expo Center

Financial Support

To support the Afghan evacuees who recently arrived in Virginia, Floris UMC/Restoration has set up an Afghan Evacuees Response fund that will directly benefit individuals and families. The fund will support the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS Center) and Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA).

Future Support

Through LSSNCA, we hope to provide volunteers that will

  • Transport families from Fort Lee to temporary housing the DMV area
  • Collect items for Welcome Home Gift Boxes (see below) for newly arrived families
  • Create on-call teams to set up apartments for families receiving their SIV status

Donations Needed

Floris UMC/Restoration is collecting items to support our new neighbors as they resettle in DC, Maryland and Virginia. Please drop items in the blue donation bins outside the sanctuary from Monday-Friday (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) and on Sundays during worship.
