Honduras Mission Trip
Floris UMC and Restoration Reston will be launching a joint mission trip to The Leadership Center (TLC) in Honduras. The Center is run by Leadership Mission International, a US-based nonprofit that creates entrepreneurial employment opportunities for young women.
TLC is a residential school (two and half year program) in rural Honduras that educates, trains and develops young women to become the next generation of ethical leaders. Students learn English, leadership, community development and entrepreneurship.
A mission team will be formed and finalized by November 1, 2019 to spend a week (February 15-22, 2020) at the campus of TLC.
While there, the mission team will participate in:
- Leading and participating in the classroom (4 classes a day)
- Assisting students with reading books in English
- Working with students on chores around the farm
- Attending and facilitating special programs/seminars after school and in the evenings
- Daily devotionals and bible study
Team members must be willing to commit to the following requirements:
- Complete an application
- Attend training sessions (October 27, November 17, January 9)
- Read TLC handbook
The expected costs for the trip:
- a. $500 for room and board (covers your in-country transportation, food, lodging and other related costs.)
- b. $500-700 for airfare (subject to change based on flight availability and additional fees)
- c. $30 (approximately) for International Health Insurance
- d. $50-$100 cash – personal spending
The joint mission team has a maximum capacity of 16, so space is limited. Please fill out an application to be considered as a candidate of this mission team. Team members will be selected from both campuses.

Cuba Mission Trips
Beginning in 2007, Floris UMC has sent mission teams to Cuba annually (typically in May and June) through United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM). These teams focus primarily on rebuilding churches, while missioners also offer financial and spiritual support to the Methodist Church of Cuba. Construction teams work throughout the country, wherever the need is greatest.
If you are interested or want more information about our work in Cuba, contact Aldo Gonzalez.
Haiti Mission Trips
Floris UMC began sending short-term mission volunteers to participate in Haiti rebuilding efforts after the devastating earthquake of 2010. Over a three-year recovery period, six different Floris United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) teams traveled to various parts of Haiti to assist in reconstruction projects identified by the Methodist Church of Haiti (EMH). As rebuilding and disaster relief ended, Floris UMC aligned with the Haiti Partnership to build relationships and work collaboratively with Haitian partners for sustained community development.
Upcoming missions to Haiti will be posted soon.
National Relief Trips
At least twice a year Floris UMC sends a team somewhere in the United States to help with natural disaster destruction. In partnership with other United Methodist Churches, Floris UMC helps families and communities recover. All levels of experience are welcome.
The following Mission trips have been scheduled to serve in Lumberton, North Carolina in 2020:
October 8 – 13, 2020 – Adults
Interested volunteers should contact Tim Wells for more information.
