Sadly today was our last day of working and playing with the kids at VBS. At the church we were able to finish painting a wall that we had worked on plastering and sanding down a few days before, so it was really cool to see the final product. However, my favorite part of the day was definitely playing with the kids at VBS. Since it was our last day with them we had a celebration with cake, candy, and a piata. They all loved it! I had a blast piggybacking and playing endless games tag with all of my new little friends. I especially bonded with this adorable little 5-year-old girl, Monica, who despite not being able to understand anything I was saying, still wanted me to carry her and go everywhere with me. She introduced me to her sister and brother and I later learned from Pastor Victor’s wife that those children’s parents often do not care for them and may be involved with other distractions like drugs and things. This made the memories I was making with these kids even more special because they don’t always get that kind of attention at home. Learning this really put my life in perspective and made me even more grateful for all that I have.
This whole week was so great sharing the bible stories and songs with all the kids and looking down at their smiling faces, taking it all in. I feel so blessed to be able to have these experiences with the kids. I can’t believe the week is practically over. I am going to miss seeing the kids and Pastor Victor at the church, as well as our new North Carolina friends, but I’m so grateful for all the amazing memories and experiences I have been blessed with while on this trip.
