Do you have an hour to spare after worship on Sunday? If so, the possibilities are BIG to make a difference in our community and care for those around us.

Let’s be a BIG part of this together. Every Sunday during Lent, you have quick, easy and BIG opportunities to make a BIG difference.

No need to register. Just show up. Everyone is welcome!

Online Serve Opportunities

Discover easy but impactful opportunities for online worshippers to serve the community, the world, and the church. Each Sunday offers a new chance to experience a service activity.

February 18

Welcome our Guest House guests to Floris UMC. They arrive at 5 p.m. on February 18 and stay the week.
  1. Handwrite cards to guests and let them know they are welcome. Use your cards, stationary, or paper to write generic cards. Phrases may include:
    • You are so welcome here!
    • We hope you enjoy your stay.
    • We pray that you have a good week.
  2. Sign cards with your name or The Floris UMC Community.
  3. Drop cards off at Floris UMC or mail them to the church at 13600 Frying Pan Road, Herndon, VA 20171

February 25

Practice praying every day with the help of a prayer bracelet.
  • Make prayer bracelets for Helping Children Worldwide to give to children in Sierra Leone. The Floris-Restoration Mission Team will deliver the bracelets to children during their trip this summer.
  • Gather your supplies to make bracelets or ask to pick up a kit at Floris UMC. Supply & Assembly Instructions
  • Drop bracelets off at Floris UMC or mail them to the church at 13600 Frying Pan Road, Herndon, VA 20171

March 3

Help make the world more accessible for blind and low-vision individuals.

  • Consider supporting Guiding Eyes for the Blind and their work raising puppies as Guide Dogs. Learn more, including how to be a Puppy Raiser.
  • Help a blind or low-vision individual in everyday tasks as a Be My Eyes volunteer. Through an app, blind or low-vision individuals connect to sighted volunteers on a video call to help recognize objects and assist with daily tasks.
  • Collect used eyeglasses and donate them to Lions Club International of Virginia.

March 10

Donate an Easter Basket to a child.

  1. Fill an Easter Basket for a child associated with one of our Floris-Restoration partner organizations. Pick up an Easter Basket Kit from Floris UMC beginning February 25. Return your filled basket by March 17.
  2. If you are unable to pick up a kit in person, you can:
    • Contribute financially to the Easter Basket Ministry. They use funds to fill baskets for kits not picked up by the congregation. Donate Now
    • Create an Easter basket and donate it to a children’s hospital, shelter, or foster care center in your area. Encourage others to join you!

March 17

Prepare to welcome guests to Floris UMC on Easter.

  • We will assemble paper flowers in person and hang them in and around the Gathering Space and Lobby for Easter.
  • Help cut and prepare supplies for this project from home. Pick up a pack of flower petals to cut and return them to church. Contact Kelly at kcrespin@florisumc.org

March 24

Assemble EGGvitations.

  • Fill a set of plastic eggs with candy and treats. Hide them in your friend’s or neighbor’s yard. Then, hang a card on their door inviting them to Easter worship at Floris UMC.
  • Assemble your kit using the instructions provided.
