Today is Day 4 of our JP mission trip to Winchester and it is our free day. We left the camp this morning and headed to Cacapon State Park in Berkley Springs, WV. Another youth group from Harmony United Methodist Church joined us for the day.

The theme for today was a luau and all the kids received leis before we left camp. When we got to the park the kids went swimming in the lake and then we had a cookout out of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, watermelon and tons of snacks. After lunch the kids played badminton, spun each other on the merry-go-round, hung out on the teeter-totter and went investigating in the creek.

As I sit here and watch all the kids hanging out with each other, many with kids they never knew before this week, I am in awe at the peace that surrounds me. As I pass by one of the groups to snap some pictures, I over hear the kids talking about death and what it might feel like to die and how a person might feel when they get to heaven. Another group is sitting on the edge of the creek talking about how the little creatures survive in such shallow water. Another group is playing badminton together and laughing with each other when they swing and miss the birdie. Watching middle school kids just be kids and play together has been an amazing experience.

There is a peace that surrounds everyone right now and I know at this moment God is here in the hearts of every one of the 25 kids. I am so humbled to be a part of this wonderful day that we have been blessed with.
