Today I Saw God

Special eNote from Rev. Tom Berlin December 15, 2012

Dear Friends,

Undoubtedly we are all saddened by the tragic deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. It is another senseless act of violence that has left us with despair at the suffering of the innocent. Tomorrow in our morning worship we will hear the choir present "Heaven's Child," a presentation of the Christmas story through scripture and music. There are some weeks when there simply are not words to express the sadness we feel or our hope that God will intervene in the events of our world. In such times, music is often a powerful minister to our souls. "Heaven's Child" will be a comforting reminder that God has heard our cries and sent his Son. We will have a time of prayer at each of the morning services that will focus on the Newtown tragedy. The Sunday evening service will offer other opportunities for prayer as well as the chance to light votive candles and receive Holy Communion. A sermon that will focus on God's love for us, especially on our brokenness, will be a reminder of how we are called to care for each other, especially in times of distress.

I hope that you will join me in worship tomorrow, where we can offer our sadness about this most recent tragedy, and seek the consolation of God.

In Christ,
– Tom
