Today I Saw God
What a Blessing
A few years ago I signed up for what was then called Respite Care at Floris UMC to babysit a friend of mine's three special needs children. I thought that it would be nice to watch my friend's kids while she and her husband went out for the evening. Little did I know what a blessing Respite Care, now called Family Support Ministry, would be to me.
The children that I have had the opportunity to spend time with, from two different families, are living joys. They each have their own unique personalities and have made me feel welcome in their homes.
I have learned so much from 5-year-old Meredith. Despite her disabilities, she is one of the most joyful children I have ever met, happy and smiling all the time (even when it is bed time). She truly embodies Paul's testimony in Philippians 4:12, "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation." She humbles me with her positive attitude.
And who wouldn't want to spend an evening with Jeffrey? An enthusiastic, happy-go-lucky 16-year-old that loves sports and video games and keeps me smiling with his sense of humor. It's a guaranteed fun evening when Jeffrey is around.
It has been so enjoyable to get to know and better understand these children and appreciate their gifts. Being with them has truly been an opportunity to grow in my faith. I can't wait to meet more children through Floris UMC's Family Support Ministry and see the children from these two families again.
