Can you be both gay and Christian? Many people identify this way, yet it can create tension. Some churches do not affirm people who are LGBTQ+. But, at Floris UMC, we include all people, regardless of orientation or identity. How do we reconcile this inclusion with Biblical passages that condemn homosexuality?
Dr. Laura Holmes, Wesley Theological Seminary professor specializing in New Testament study, will help us learn. She will share information from an academic perspective about how the original authors of the New Testament viewed sexuality. We will also explore translation challenges that have been misinterpreted over time.
In addition, we recognize that LGBTQ+ issues are extensive. Homosexuality is frequently questioned and challenged in religious contexts. What is this experience like? Listen to candid stories that provide opportunities to get to know others more compassionately.
