Earth Day: Battery Recycling

Celebrate Earth Day with Purpose
Join us in honoring Earth Day by making a meaningful impact in your community. Our Environmental Justice and Stewardship team is hosting a battery recycling event, and you’re invited to take part in this simple yet powerful act of care for our planet.

Why Battery Recycling Matters
Many household batteries end up in landfills, where they can leak harmful chemicals into the soil and water. Recycling them properly helps reduce environmental harm and supports responsible stewardship of the resources we’ve been given.

What to Bring
We welcome batteries of all sizes commonly used in the home, from small everyday batteries to larger household types. Simply bring your used batteries and place them in the designated collection bins. Our team will take care of the rest.

Make an Impact Together
This is a great opportunity to declutter your home while contributing to a healthier environment. It’s also a chance to come together as a community and live out our shared commitment to caring for creation.

Join Us
Whether you’ve been saving up old batteries or just have a few to recycle, every contribution makes a difference. Be part of this Earth Day effort and help us build a culture of stewardship and environmental responsibility.

Hope for the Home: Less Stuff, More God

Save the Date: Hope for the Home: Less Stuff, More God

What would it feel like to create space in your home and your life for what matters most?

Join us for Hope for the Home: Less Stuff, More God, an upcoming event designed to help you pause, reflect, and re-center in the midst of life’s constant noise and clutter. Led by Amy Slenker-Smith, Life and Business Coach with Simply Enough, this experience will guide you in rethinking your relationship with “stuff” and how it impacts your spiritual life.

We live in a culture that constantly pushes for more, yet many of us feel overwhelmed by both physical clutter and mental noise. What fills our spaces often fills our minds as well, leaving little room for peace or reflection. This event invites you to step into a different rhythm, one that creates margin for clarity, rest, and a deeper connection with God.

What you will gain:
You will walk away with a fresh perspective on what truly matters and a renewed sense of clarity in your daily life. Through guided reflection and practical teaching, you will learn simple, actionable strategies to begin decluttering your home and your mind. More importantly, you will discover how creating space in your environment can open the door to deeper peace, purpose, and meaningful spiritual encounter.

More details, including date, time, and registration, will be shared soon.

Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day

Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day

Celebrate Earth Day Through Action
In celebration of Earth Day, our Environmental Justice and Stewardship Team invites you to take part in a meaningful opportunity to care for God’s creation right here in our own community. We will be gathering to help clean the watershed area behind our church, a protected natural space that plays an important role in our local ecosystem.

Why This Work Matters
Over time, rain and wind naturally carry litter and debris into nearby creekbeds and wetlands. While much of it may go unnoticed, this buildup can have a lasting impact on the health of the land and waterways. By coming together to clean this area, we are taking an active step in protecting and preserving a space that God has entrusted to us.

Protecting Local Waterways
This watershed is not only part of our immediate environment, but it is also connected to a much larger system of waterways. What enters these creekbeds can eventually make its way into the Potomac River and even the Chesapeake Bay. By removing litter at the source, we are helping reduce pollution downstream and contributing to the long-term health of these vital waters.

Who Can Participate
This event is open to everyone in the community, and all ages are welcome to participate. Whether you are passionate about environmental stewardship, looking for a hands-on way to serve, or simply want to spend time outdoors making a difference, this is a great opportunity to get involved. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help care for creation.

Volunteer Sign-Up Information
We are seeking volunteers to help make this event possible, with approximately 60 volunteers needed throughout the day.

Volunteer shifts include:

  •  Setup
  •  Two 1.5-hour grounds cleanup shifts
  •  End cleanup

If you are able to serve, please sign up using the link below:

REGISTER HERE >

What to Expect
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Gloves and any necessary cleanup supplies will be provided. We also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated as we work together.

Join Us in Caring for Creation
More than just a cleanup, this is a chance to live out our shared responsibility to love and care for the world around us. As we serve together, we are reminded that small acts of stewardship can have a lasting impact on our environment and our community.

Join us as we celebrate Earth Day by making a tangible difference. Together, we can help restore and protect this beautiful watershed area for future generations.

Conversations on Christian Parenting

Parenting in Today’s World: A Faith-Centered Conversation

Event Overview

Raising children today can feel both deeply meaningful and incredibly complex. We are inviting parents and caretakers of children ages 0–12 to join us for a welcoming space to share wisdom, encouragement, and real-life experiences in parenting. This gathering is designed to support those who are seeking to raise their children in a Christ-like and Christ-following way while navigating a world that looks very different from the one we grew up in.

A Space for Honest Conversation

Parenting doesn’t come with a simple roadmap; especially when balancing faith, values, and the realities of today’s culture. This event creates an environment where you can wrestle with those questions alongside others who understand the journey. Together, we will explore what it means to model Christ in our homes, have meaningful conversations with our children, and approach parenting with both grace and intentionality.

Led by Pastor Daniel

Each session will be guided by Pastor Daniel, offering thoughtful insight, practical perspective, and space for open discussion. Whether you’re navigating early childhood or the transitions that come with growing kids, this is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow alongside a supportive community.

Flexible and Welcoming

We understand that life is busy. While this is a multi-session experience, you are not required to attend every session to participate. You are welcome to join whenever you are able. Each gathering is designed to stand on its own while contributing to a larger, ongoing conversation.

Interfaith Dinner & Discussion — Fellowship Night (Faith250)

Event Overview
You are warmly invited to join us for an evening of connection, reflection, and meaningful dialogue at our upcoming Interfaith Dinner and Discussion. As part of our Faith250 Fellowship Night series, we welcome the Floris UMC community on April 16 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for a shared experience centered on listening, learning, and community-building.

A Meaningful Moment
This gathering represents the third of four interfaith events created to bring people together across faith traditions during this once-in-a-generation moment in our nation’s history. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and engage with others as we consider both the promise and the complexity of the American story.

Purpose of the Gathering
Together, we aim to create a space where the richness of diverse perspectives is honored. Through open and guided conversation, we will explore what it means to pursue a common good that is inclusive of the many identities, beliefs, and lived experiences that shape our democracy. This evening invites honest dialogue—not only about unity, but also about the tensions and contradictions that are part of our shared history.

What to Expect
Over a shared meal, participants will engage in thoughtful discussion designed to foster empathy, curiosity, and deeper understanding. Whether you come with questions, personal experiences, or simply a willingness to listen, your voice and presence are valued. This is a space to connect, reflect, and grow together in community.
