Have you ever struggled to explain why your faith still matters in today’s world? Or wondered how to talk about Christianity in a way that is honest, thoughtful, and grounded in real life? Join Pastor Drew for a three-week book club as we read and discuss Unapologetic: Why, Despite Everything, Christianity Can Still Make Surprising Emotional Sense by Francis Spufford.

Rather than offering a traditional defense of Christianity, Spufford shares a heartfelt and refreshingly honest account of what it means to follow Christ in a world where faith is often misunderstood or dismissed. With his signature wit, insightful storytelling, and engaging writing style, he explores the emotional and spiritual realities of Christian belief, acknowledging both the beauty and the challenges of living a life of faith. His approach is thoughtful, authentic, and often humorous, making this an engaging read for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Christianity.

Whether you’ve been a Christian for many years, are exploring faith for the first time, or simply enjoy meaningful conversations about life and belief, this book club offers a welcoming space to read, reflect, and learn together. Pastor Drew will guide each week’s discussion, creating opportunities to explore the book’s themes, ask questions, share perspectives, and encourage one another in faith.

This three-week series is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, deepen your understanding of the Christian faith, and engage with a thought-provoking book in a relaxed and welcoming environment. We encourage participants to attend all three sessions to get the most out of the discussion, but you’re welcome to join us even if you can’t make every week.

For just $5 per person, your registration includes a delicious dinner and an evening of Bingo with family, friends, and neighbors. Enjoy great food, exciting games, and plenty of opportunities to connect with others in a fun, welcoming environment.

Get ready for a fun-filled day of sun, swimming, and summer memories at Summer Splash 2026! Students entering grades 6–12 are invited to join Floris Student Ministries for an exciting day at the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole at Lake Fairfax on Wednesday, August 12, from 10:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity for students to cool off, spend time with friends, and enjoy a day of fellowship before summer comes to an end. Whether you are a regular part of Student Ministries or joining us for the first time, everyone is welcome!

The cost is $13.50 per student and includes admission to the water park. Students should bring a swimsuit, towel, and a bag lunch or money for concessions. Floris will provide additional snacks and drinks throughout the day.

Transportation Options

Students have two options for joining us:

  • Ride the church bus: Meet us at the Floris UMC upper parking lot at 10:30 a.m. for transportation to the water park.
  • Meet us at the park: Families may bring students directly to the Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole at Lake Fairfax, where we will meet at 11:00 a.m.

We will leave the park at 4:30 p.m. and return to Floris UMC by approximately 5:00 p.m.

All participants must have a current Student Ministries Release Form completed for the 2025–26 school year.

If you have not previously completed the form or need to update your information, please submit the current form as soon as possible.

Summer Children’s Choir Sunday

Summer Children’s Choir Sunday

Children in Kindergarten through 6th grades are invited to take part in our Summer Children’s Choir Sunday on Sunday, August 16. Children may attend either service. This is a great way for children to experience choir without a long-term commitment. No prior singing experience is needed. We hope your family will join us for this fun morning of music and worship!

Singing at 9 am service? Arrive at 8:20 am for rehearsal in the music room.

Singing at 11 am service? Arrive at 10 am for rehearsal in the music room.

A Summer of Growth and Connection

Adult Enrichment is a joyful, inclusive summer program hosted by Floris United Methodist Church through its Access Ministries community. This program is designed for adults with disabilities, unique abilities, or those who benefit from additional support, offering a welcoming space to grow, connect, and thrive.

Learning Life Skills in a Supportive Environment

Summer is a time to explore new interests, strengthen life skills, and build meaningful relationships. Adult Enrichment provides a structured, supportive setting where participants can grow in independence while engaging in hands-on, meaningful activities. Areas of focus include everyday living skills, communication and social development, functional learning such as math and literacy, and wellness and personal growth.

A Community Where Everyone Belongs

More than a program, Adult Enrichment is a place of belonging. Every participant is valued, supported, and encouraged in a community rooted in inclusion, respect, and care. Staff and volunteers work together to create a safe, welcoming environment where friendships are formed, confidence is built, and every person is empowered to participate fully.

Adult Enrichment is designed for adults who benefit from a supportive learning and social environment, including individuals with disabilities or unique abilities. Whether joining for the first time or returning, participants are welcomed into a program that meets them where they are and supports their continued growth.

Third Grade Bibles & Reception

3rd Grade Bibles

Receiving a Bible is an exciting milestone in a child’s faith journey, and Floris is honored to celebrate this special moment with our families each year.

As children begin their third-grade school year, Floris United Methodist Church provides each child with their very own Bible—a gift that will encourage them as they grow in their relationship with God and deepen their understanding of Scripture. Whether used during family devotions, Sunday school, or personal reading, we hope this Bible becomes a treasured companion for years to come.

If your child is entering third grade, we invite them to receive a Bible as part of this meaningful tradition. Children in fourth or fifth grade who did not receive a Bible during their third-grade year are also warmly invited to participate.

Parents and guardians are asked to complete the registration form below so we can prepare a Bible for each child. If you are registering more than one child, simply select “Add Another Child” to include each additional participant.

What to Expect on August 30

Third graders and their families are invited to a special reception from 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Enjoy light refreshments, family fellowship, and a special photo backdrop as we celebrate this meaningful milestone.

During both the 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. worship services, third graders will sit with their families or in front of the choir. Each child’s name will be announced, and they will be invited forward to receive their Bible.

We look forward to celebrating this important step in your child’s faith journey and equipping them with God’s Word as they continue to learn, grow, and discover His love.

The Floris Art Gallery invites you to experience this month’s featured installation—What the Bees See—a vibrant and immersive exploration of the natural world through the perspective of bees.

This striking exhibit offers a fresh way of seeing creation, drawing attention to the beauty, complexity, and quiet wonder found in flowers, movement, light, and the delicate ecosystems that sustain life.
