Do you love to sing? Have you ever wondered what it’s like to help lead worship through music? This summer, we’re inviting people of all ages—from 4th grade through adults—to be part of Summer Choir Sundays, a special opportunity to lift your voice, grow in confidence, and experience the joy of leading worship as part of a choir.

You don’t need to be a professional singer or read music perfectly—just bring your energy, enthusiasm, and a heart ready to worship.

We’re gathering on Sunday, August 30, for a special choir Sundays.

For 9AM Choir 

  • Meet at 8:20am in the Music Room
  • Learn an anthem and the hymns for that day
  • Lead worship at 9:00am with the full congregation

For 11AM Choir

  • Meet at 10:00am in the Music Room
  • Learn an anthem and the hymns for that day
  • Lead worship at 11:00am with the full congregation

This is a fantastic way to:

  • Try out choir in a relaxed, low-pressure environment
  • Sing alongside friends, family, and fellow worshipers
  • Be part of a warm welcoming music ministry
  • Add your voice to something meaningful this summer

Whether you’re a seasoned choir member or singing with us for the very first time, there’s a place for you. Children, youth, and adults are all welcome—this is truly an intergenerational experience.

No long-term commitment—just come, sing, and serve when you can.

Book Drop Collection 2026

Give Your Books and Media a Second Life

Looking to declutter your home this summer? Floris has an easy way to turn your unwanted books and media into resources that others can enjoy for years to come with our Book Drop Collection 2026.

On Sunday, June 14, bring your gently used:

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Record albums
  • CDs
  • DVDs

Donations can be dropped off during the morning worship services. If you cannot make it that day, no problem. Book Drop bins will also be available in the Floris parking lot for convenient 24/7 drop-off.

Why Donate?

Many of us have shelves, closets, and storage boxes filled with items we no longer use. Instead of throwing them away, consider giving them a second life.

Book Drop collects, sorts, and redistributes donated materials to:

  • Libraries
  • Academic institutions
  • Thrift stores
  • Wholesale bookstores
  • Community organizations

Your donations help ensure these items continue to be read, studied, listened to, and enjoyed by others.

A Small Effort, A Lasting Impact

That novel you finished years ago could become someone’s next favorite book. Those old CDs and records could bring joy to a music lover. Educational materials could help support students and lifelong learners.

Called Charge Conference

Called Charge Conference

Join Floris UMC leadership for a Called Charge Conference as we gather for an important moment of church governance, discernment, and shared decision-making. This meeting will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join either in person or online.

This meeting will also be available online via Microsoft Teams.

Purpose of the Meeting

The primary purpose of this Called Charge Conference is to review and approve a clergy compensation update. This reflects our ongoing commitment to faithful stewardship, transparency, and care for those who lead and serve within our church community.

Charge Conferences are a key part of United Methodist structure and life together. They create space for leadership and congregation members to come together in prayerful consideration of decisions that support the mission and ministry of the church.

How to Participate

This is a hybrid meeting with two ways to attend:

This Called Charge Conference will follow a focused agenda centered on a single primary item. Participants can expect:

  • A brief opening and prayer
  • Presentation of the clergy compensation update
  • Opportunity for brief questions or clarification, if needed
  • A vote by eligible members
  • Closing remarks and prayer

The meeting is designed to be efficient while ensuring clarity, care, and appropriate space for discernment.

Celebrating the Class of 2026

We are excited to celebrate and honor the Class of 2026 as they mark this important milestone in their lives. Graduation is a time of achievement, reflection, and new beginnings, and we want to recognize each graduate as part of our church family.

Graduation Recognition Sunday

On Sunday, June 14, we will recognize all 2026 graduates during worship with a special slideshow celebration. This is a meaningful opportunity for our church community to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and pray over their next steps.

To include your graduate in the slideshow, please submit by June 7:

  •  The school or program they are graduating from

We also invite all 2026 high school graduates to a special celebration dinner:

This evening is designed just for our graduating seniors to gather, be celebrated, and enjoy time together with peers and church leaders. It is a chance to reflect on the journey so far and look ahead with encouragement and support from your church family.

Graduation is more than an ending, it is a beginning. We are honored to walk alongside our graduates as they step into new seasons of life, whether that is continuing education, work, service, or other callings. We look forward to celebrating each student and recognizing the unique path God is leading them into.

Student End of Year Bash

Celebrate the End of the School Year with Student Ministries

Celebrate the end of the school year with Student Ministries as we come together for an afternoon of fun, community, and celebration in the upper parking lot. This event is designed to help students unwind, connect with friends, and kick off summer in the best way possible.

We’ll have a full lineup of games and activities for everyone to enjoy, along with plenty of food and space to hang out. One of the highlights of the day will be the waterslide, so come ready to get wet and have fun. Whether you want to compete in games, relax with friends, or just enjoy the atmosphere, there will be something for everyone.

This is a shared meal-style gathering, so we invite families and students to bring a side dish or dessert to share. It’s a great way to contribute to the table and enjoy a variety of food together as a community.

All students are welcome, and friends are encouraged to come along. This is a great opportunity to celebrate all the hard work of the school year and step into summer with joy and connection.

This session features Andrew Goddard, Legislative Director of the Virginia Center for Public Safety, who brings a data-driven and educational approach to this important topic. Together, we will explore commonly misunderstood statistics, unpack widespread myths, and examine how the Second Amendment is often interpreted in public conversations. The goal is not to debate, but to provide clarity through facts and thoughtful discussion.

The Holy’s Spirit: Pastors Study

Format: In-person

Join Pastor Daniel Cho for a focused three-night study experience designed to deepen understanding of prayer, spiritual formation, and the active presence of God in everyday life. This class runs alongside a three-week sermon series that explores themes rooted in prayer and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit.

Together, we will engage in meaningful conversation, reflection, and teaching centered on how God’s Spirit moves within us and strengthens our faith journey. This study is loosely based on Adam Hamilton’s The Holy Spirit, offering a practical and accessible exploration of spiritual life and growth.

Participants are encouraged to engage in weekly reading to enrich discussion and personal reflection:

  • Five chapters total
  • Read two chapters each week in preparation for class
