Holy Mystery Class

Introduction to Holy Communion for Children

We are excited to offer an Introduction to Holy Communion class designed for children. This gathering provides a welcoming, age-appropriate space for kids to learn about the sacrament through interactive, hands-on experiences that engage all the senses.

What to Expect
Children will explore the meaning of Holy Communion through stories, activities, and guided discussion. Our goal is to help them understand this important part of the Christian faith in a way that is meaningful, memorable, and easy to grasp.

Who It’s For
This class is open to any child who wants to learn more about Holy Communion, whether they are preparing to participate for the first time or simply curious to deepen their understanding.

Where and When
We will meet in Kid’s Crossing at the same time as the Christian Parenting session led by Pastor Daniel Cho, making it easy for families to participate in both opportunities simultaneously.

Watershed and Grounds Clean-up Day

Celebrate Earth Day Through Action
In celebration of Earth Day, our Environmental Justice and Stewardship Team invites you to take part in a meaningful opportunity to care for God’s creation right here in our own community. We will be gathering to help clean the watershed area behind our church, a protected natural space that plays an important role in our local ecosystem.

Why This Work Matters
Over time, rain and wind naturally carry litter and debris into nearby creekbeds and wetlands. While much of it may go unnoticed, this buildup can have a lasting impact on the health of the land and waterways. By coming together to clean this area, we are taking an active step in protecting and preserving a space that God has entrusted to us.

Protecting Local Waterways
This watershed is not only part of our immediate environment, but it is also connected to a much larger system of waterways. What enters these creekbeds can eventually make its way into the Potomac River and even the Chesapeake Bay. By removing litter at the source, we are helping reduce pollution downstream and contributing to the long-term health of these vital waters.

Who Can Participate
This event is open to everyone in the community, and all ages are welcome to participate. Whether you are passionate about environmental stewardship, looking for a hands-on way to serve, or simply want to spend time outdoors making a difference, this is a great opportunity to get involved. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help care for creation.

Volunteer Sign-Up Information
We are seeking volunteers to help make this event possible, with approximately 60 volunteers needed throughout the day.

Volunteer shifts include:

  •  Setup
  •  Two 1.5-hour grounds cleanup shifts
  •  End cleanup

What to Expect
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work. Gloves and any necessary cleanup supplies will be provided. We also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated as we work together.

CPR/AED Training

Learn Life-Saving Skills: Free CPR/AED Training at Floris UMC

Floris UMC is offering a FREE CPR and AED training led by certified instructor Jeanine Ramos. This hands-on training will equip you with the confidence and skills to respond effectively in emergencies. Learn life-saving techniques and practical guidance for using an AED that could make all the difference when it matters most.

The training will take place on Sunday, April 19, with two class options to fit your schedule: 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM. Each session is limited to just 20 participants, making this an intimate, focused learning environment where you will get personalized instruction and plenty of hands-on practice. Spots are expected to fill quickly, so don’t wait to reserve your place!

This training is open to everyone in the congregation, whether you are learning CPR for the first time or want to refresh your skills.

Parenting in Today’s World: A Faith-Centered Conversation

Event Overview

Raising children today can feel both deeply meaningful and incredibly complex. We are inviting parents and caretakers of children ages 0–12 to join us for a welcoming space to share wisdom, encouragement, and real-life experiences in parenting. This gathering is designed to support those who are seeking to raise their children in a Christ-like and Christ-following way while navigating a world that looks very different from the one we grew up in.

All sessions meet from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm:

A Space for Honest Conversation

Parenting doesn’t come with a simple roadmap; especially when balancing faith, values, and the realities of today’s culture. This event creates an environment where you can wrestle with those questions alongside others who understand the journey. Together, we will explore what it means to model Christ in our homes, have meaningful conversations with our children, and approach parenting with both grace and intentionality.

Led by Pastor Daniel

Each session will be guided by Pastor Daniel, offering thoughtful insight, practical perspective, and space for open discussion. Whether you’re navigating early childhood or the transitions that come with growing kids, this is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow alongside a supportive community.

Flexible and Welcoming

We understand that life is busy. While this is a multi-session experience, you are not required to attend every session to participate. You are welcome to join whenever you are able. Each gathering is designed to stand on its own while contributing to a larger, ongoing conversation.

We will also be inviting individuals we’ve identified as potential leaders, but everyone is welcome to come and learn more.

What to expect: You will hear from our ministry leaders about the vision for the upcoming year and the ways volunteers play a key role in helping students encounter God, build community, and grow in faith. You’ll also learn about different opportunities to serve, from mentoring and leading small groups to helping with events and behind-the-scenes support.

Graduation Celebration

Celebrating the Class of 2026

We are excited to celebrate and honor the Class of 2026 as they mark this important milestone in their lives. Graduation is a time of achievement, reflection, and new beginnings, and we want to recognize each graduate as part of our church family.

Graduation Recognition Sunday

On Sunday, June 14, we will recognize all 2026 graduates during worship with a special slideshow celebration. This is a meaningful opportunity for our church community to celebrate the accomplishments of our students and pray over their next steps.

To include your graduate in the slideshow, please submit by June 7:

  •  The school or program they are graduating from

We also invite all 2026 high school graduates to a special celebration dinner:
