Grief to Peace

Grief to Peace: A Christ-Centered Support Group for Those Who Are Grieving
Wednesdays, February 11 – March 18 | 7:00–8:30 PM

Grief is a journey no one wants to take, but one many of us must. If you’ve experienced the loss of someone close to you and are looking for comfort, hope, and healing, Grief to Peace offers a safe and compassionate space to begin that journey — one step at a time, with God by your side.

This six-week, Christian-based support group is designed for anyone navigating the pain of grief. Whether your loss is recent or something you’ve carried for years, you are welcome here. In a small group setting, you’ll find encouragement, connection, and spiritual tools that can help you make sense of your grief and begin to heal.

Each week, we’ll explore common experiences of grief, such as how it impacts your daily life, relationships, emotions, and faith. You’ll learn spiritual strategies rooted in scripture for managing the physical, mental, and emotional weight of grief. More importantly, you’ll be reminded that you are not alone.

The group format includes:

  • Guided scripture reflections
  • Whole-group discussions
  • Optional personal sharing
  • Prayer and spiritual encouragement

This is a space where you are free to speak, reflect, cry, or simply listen — wherever you are in your grief process, Grief to Peace meets you there.

Easter Food Drive

Easter Food Drive

February 22, 2026 – April 5, 2026

Why This Matters

Your donations will supply food to our neighbors through our Grace Ministries food distribution and a pop-up food distribution at Hutchison Elementary School. We also support Community of Faith UMC’s food pantry and the Cornerstones Food hub.

This initiative is a simple but meaningful way we can step in and help meet a practical need.

What We’re Collecting

In response to the rise in food insecurity, from February 22 through April 5, Floris UMC will host a food drive to run the next several weeks Nov 16-Dec 14. Our goal is to get 100 of each item to use for a pop up food distribution at Hutchison ES .  Below is our preferred list of items.

Shopping List

  • Bag of Rice 1lb up to 5lb Bags
  • Peanut Butter
  • Jelly
  • 5lb Bag of MASA
  • Spaghetti 1lb
  • Spaghetti Sauce Jars
  • Canned Vegetables/Beans
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned Chicken/Tuna
  • 24oz Cooking Oil

There will be blue bins available to collect these items in the gathering space Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:00pm and Sunday 7:00am – 1:00pm/

Your donation helps:

  • Stock pantry shelves for foster families
  • Reduce grocery expenses for caregivers
  • Support teens aging out of foster care
  • Ensure reliable, nutritious meals are available

While a single can may feel small, collective generosity adds up quickly. When we come together as a community, we create real and lasting impact.

How to Participate

Bring your canned goods to the designated collection area anytime between February 22 and April 5, 2026.

Consider setting a reminder, inviting your family to contribute, or organizing a small group effort to maximize your impact.

Middle School Mission Trip 2026

About the Trip

Middle school students are invited to join an in-person Mission Trip led by Pepe Miller and the student ministry team. This experience combines hands-on service, spiritual growth, and meaningful community connection. Students will serve those in need through light construction projects while reflecting on their faith and building lasting friendships.

Service & Impact

Students will participate in practical service projects, helping individuals and families in the community. From minor home repairs to community improvement projects, students will see the direct impact of their work while learning the value of compassion, teamwork, and serving others in Christ’s name.

Worship & Spiritual Growth

Each day includes worship, devotion, and small-group reflection. Students will have opportunities to:

  • Explore Scripture together
  • Reflect on personal faith
  • Strengthen leadership and teamwork skills
  • Experience God’s calling to serve

Registration & Cost

  • Registration Opens: February 24, 2026
  • Registration Closes: June 1, 2026
  • Cost: $325 per student (covers lodging, meals, materials, transportation, and project supplies)

Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Our Immigrant Neighbors

February 24 | 7:00 PM

Our immigrant neighbors are part of the fabric of this community — our colleagues, friends, and fellow residents. At a time when many are living with fear and uncertainty, we want them to know they are seen, valued, and not alone.

We invite people of all faiths and spiritual traditions to join us for an evening of prayer, reflection, and solidarity. Drawing from the shared values at the heart of our many traditions — compassion, dignity, welcome, and justice — we will hold space together for those who are hurting, and recommit ourselves to the work of being good neighbors.

Challenging Christian Nationalism

A Learning Series with Guest Speaker and Workshops

In March, Floris UMC invites adults to take part in Challenging Christian Nationalism, a new in-person learning series designed to thoughtfully explore the relationship between Christian faith and nationalism in today’s social and political context. This series offers space for education, reflection, and respectful dialogue rooted in Christian values.

The series begins on March 1, 2026, with a special session featuring guest speaker David Carter, followed by three facilitated workshops on March 15, 22, and 29. Each gathering will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 PM and is intended for adults seeking deeper understanding and meaningful conversation.

What This Series Is About

Christian Nationalism is a topic that raises important questions about faith, identity, power, and public life. This series does not aim to provide simple answers. Instead, it creates a space to:

  • Learn from trusted voices and shared resources
  • Reflect on how faith informs public witness
  • Ask thoughtful questions in a respectful environment
  • Listen to differing perspectives with curiosity and care

The opening session with David Carter will provide historical and theological context, setting the foundation for the workshops that follow. The remaining sessions will invite participants into guided conversation, allowing time to process, reflect, and engage more deeply with one another.

Who Should Attend

This series is designed for adults who are:

  • Curious about how Christian faith intersects with nationalism
  • Interested in faith-based discussion on social issues
  • Seeking respectful, informed dialogue within a church setting

No prior knowledge is required, only a willingness to listen and engage thoughtfully.

Begin Your Lenten Journey Together

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent — a sacred season of reflection, repentance, and renewal. Floris United Methodist Church and Restoration UMC invite you to begin this holy journey by attending our Ash Wednesday Service, offered both in person and online.

Whether you join us in the sanctuary or participate from home, this service offers a meaningful opportunity to pause, pray, and reorient your heart toward God as we prepare for Easter.

What to Expect in Worship

This service centers on encountering Jesus through prayerful, time-honored practices that ground us at the start of Lent. Together, we will:

  • Sing and pray as a community
  • Hear scripture and reflection for the Lenten season
  • Receive the imposition of ashes, a visible sign of our humanity and our hope

The ashes remind us of our mortality — “from dust we came” — while also pointing us toward the promise of new life that God brings even from the ashes of our lives.

Join us before the service for a pancake supper, offering a warm, welcoming space to share a meal and connect with others.

Families planning to attend Ash Wednesday Family Worship will gather in the Gathering Space near the chapel at 6:15 p.m. for a brief, meaningful service where adults and children alike will learn about the ritual and receive ashes.

Western North Carolina Mission Trip

For over two decades, Floris United Methodist Church has been answering the call to serve communities impacted by natural disasters. From hurricanes and flooding to tornadoes, our mission teams have brought hope and help to areas across the country. Now, we invite you to be part of our next journey—our Western North Carolina Mission Trip.

Floris UMC has sent more than 60 teams to disaster-stricken areas in states like Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, New Jersey, and New York. Over 600 volunteers have rolled up their sleeves, built homes, cleared debris, and most importantly, offered compassion to those in need. This work continues as long as there are communities in need of recovery.

Our next UMVIM Team to Western North Carolina is October 11–16. Would you be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ for the thousands of folks displaced by the remnants of Hurricane Helene? Whether you are skilled in construction or have little or no experience, your willingness to help will make a great difference.

All missioners must be 18+ or 16–18 if accompanied by a parent or designated chaperone, and there’s no upper age limit—just bring your heart and hands ready to serve! From teens to retirees, our teams are made up of people who simply want to make a tangible impact in the lives of others.

Join us as we continue this important work. Be the hands and feet of Christ in North Carolina. Come ready to work, to serve, and to grow in faith and fellowship.

Messy Church is a relaxed, hands-on worship experience for all ages. Kids, parents, grandparents, and caregivers are all welcome to come as they are and experience church in a creative and joyful way.

We’ll start the evening by sharing pizza and pretzels. Gathering around the table helps us slow down, connect, and build community.

We invite you to join us as we join United Methodists, ecumenical partners, and faith communities from across the country for Faithful Resistance: A Public Witness for Immigrant Justice — a national day of worship, prayerful public witness, and advocacy on Capitol Hill.

Participants may attend in person in Washington, D.C. or take part online via livestream.

  • Stand in solidarity with immigrants and immigrant advocates
  • Join people of faith nationwide in a shared public witness
  • Take part in worship, a peaceful procession, and advocacy with lawmakers
  • Lift a faithful call for dignity, justice, and humane immigration policies
